It's still a good, respectful pace. With actual work, he actually has potential. That makes this story even shittier.

He should have been running that race alone. Refuse to play into their fantasy.

For a male who should be in his physical prime, that is a pretty abysmal pace.

I am 37 and that is my pace on a basic, non-speed run for exercise.

You guys are wrong. It's JV, which means he still has several years of building. It's 6:49/mile. That's a great building pace to improve, year over year.

I think some of you are misremembering your paces.

From Grok:

quote:

There's a wide range for the average pace of a 9th-grade cross-country runner in a 5k, but generally, a competitive pace would be under 7 minutes per mile, resulting in a 5k time under approximately 21:40.

Dude, didn’t he finish line in 60th compared to the actual men he should have been competing against? If so that’s not very competitive. But you go ahead and encourage him if it makes you feel better.

Another example of how being for Trans rights can never equal being for women's rights. It's literally impossible to stand for both at the same time. And they cannot see it. EVER. So trans rights will always win and then they say conservatives are not for women's rights. The stupid is off the charts.

No, not at all. That 2 minute difference is pretty difficult to overcome. They didn't have a chance. And if he stays in, he's going to destroy them as he continues to improve.

I'm kind of surprised at those times. I'm hardly a track star, but could at least break 20 minutes in the 5K when I was in my teens / twenties.

ETA And no, I am not misrepresenting my pace. It was published in the Sun Herald at least once LOL.

It’s Oregon so all the girls are probably liberal. Maybe the boy is making a point winning a girls race with the name Henry? I’ll allow it.

It also is embarrassing to the “women and men are equal in everything” crowd.

So, you were between an advanced and elite?

And like I said, I'm not claiming he's great, but he's a solid foundational runner that has potential. It's a shame he's cuckoo and stealing titles. I don't support that, just to be clear.

And Scruffy, you'd be classified as an elite runner if you were running that pace at 37. I recall you're a doctor, but maybe you should have been looking at running sponsorship.

You're posting times for 10-12 grade and likely varsity XC, not JV. This dude is in 9th grade JV. For clarity, there's a lot of nuances in high school XC. 9th grade can run on Varsity if they're fast enough. JV is typically split into two teams as well. Higher achieving JV runners can end up in, let's call it JV-A then the slower runners end up in JV-B.

I don't know this kids full story, but he's a JV runner. Those are looked at as capable of building up. A 6:49/mile pace in a 5k is VERY workable and he has potential.

I'll say it again because you guys aren't reading it, for a 9th grade JV male runner, he's got a great running foundation to build upon. If he actually trained harder and focused his efforts, he would be a competitive runner in his age and grouping.

I never said he was an elite, Varsity level runner.

It's pathetic what he's doing.

I don't know where you pulled that chart from, but those aren't elite times for a male in a cross country race. Are you saying that he could eventually be competitive in girl's varsity by the time he is a senior? Maybe. But 21 minutes in hs XC as a freshman is pretty bad for someone who was in track in middle school.

I would guess that he will never be a top girl's runner at distance.
