Based upon your attitude here - i am willing to bet that - not only will you land on your feet but will find great opportunity and likely begin a new chapter in your life that will bring you more joy then you believed possible in your current role.

Sorry to hear that but your positive attitude will help you. You'll likely in time find a better job.

How many hours, on average, would you work per week?
Was there any part of your organization that could have been run more efficiently? If so, what and how?

Bet none of the bureaucratic upper management/administrative types were not shown the door.

when did you contract end? hopefully you did well and have time to find more work.
Glad you have common sense.

You won’t be the last, the south is in for a very big rude awakening on how much federal funds flow this way.

If you say that you worked for the CDC running their website for over a decade.. you would be better off becoming a freelancer and working from home/

Sucks for sure. I think we are all going to hurt for a bit in some form or fashion. We cannot make needed cuts and not feel the impact somewhere.

Yeah have some close friends that work govt contracts for home loans (I have no idea what exactly they do other look at loan applications and take calls) but after they voted for trump and he started cutting the fat they are all on edge on when they will be let go. They do not have quiet as positive outlook as you and carry some resentment but imo it’s apart of healing this shite storm USA has allowed to fester, this audit should have happened years probably decades ago and gotten ahold of it so we are not in the pickle we are now

do you think that you deserved to lose your job?
Based on my job performance, no. All of my performance reviews were excellent, no matter the contracting company. Each time I got glowing reviews from the CDC staff that I interfaced with on a day to day basis.
Based on the glut of web developers at CDC (most of which are contractors) I guess the numbers needed to be thinned and some streamlining done. Very few programs/offices have an in-house dev any more, I think I was one of the last of those.

do you think that your job position was needed and served a purpose?
The office I supported focuses on community health, and the site needs are different from most of the rest of the agency website, so I do think it needs someone devoted to it and not just pulled from a pool when a change or addition is needed.

I worked a full 40 each week. Some weeks were heavy on new page creation. Others were more focused on metrics and working with the comms team to decide what to feature when new content wasn't in development.
One of the least efficient things I saw was the bureaucracy called "clearance." Basically anything that is written by either the science team or comms team has to go through multiple levels of review before it can be posted publicly. Imagine peer review but from all within the agency. Sometimes checking the science, sometimes checking the policy implications.

Thanks for the honest answers. I can't tell you how to feel, but I would be pissed. I am all for cutting out waste and corruption, but this job requires a scalpel, not a sledgehammer. It's been too easy to cheer on DOGE recently but lost in all of this is that some pretty good, hard-working people are losing their jobs. The idea that anybody and everyone who works for the government is lazy and corrupt is just plain stupid.

Didn't run the whole site, just a chunk of it primarily as a front end developer.
Tried the freelance thing before (prior to the 2008 crash) and it's super difficult to find people who need ongoing work. Mostly it is small businesses wanting a 5-10 page site via GoDaddy as a set and forget type site

Sorry to hear that.

You are right. There are a ton of great honest people that are working normal jobs that are going to get caught up in this amount of destruction. The people cheering it on will have friends and family hit with this, the big picture isn't coming into focus yet just how much we are going to impact this country by just broad brush stroking the federal workforce away which is also going to impact a lot of the supporting industries that feed into that.
The fat has been allowed to fester and it's easy to cheer cutting it, but when you go at it with a sledgehammer, its going to destroy many many families that weren't doing any fraud or waste and doing the best of what they can with life. The public sector isn't going to be able to absorb the impact and they don't want to absorb the impact. The coming storm is going to be very rough for a lot of families in this country.

Sorry for your loss.
That being said, we either cut, or we die. If we don't cut this deficit, we are no longer viable as a country.
Obviously contractors will be the first to go.
