Identifying the fraud, waste and corruption is the easy part. They are going to fight when you rip it out of the system. That’s going to be the hard part.

$516B from where, exactly?

The agencies they're targeting only spend around $917B total.

*ETA: looks like a lot of defense/VA. Good luck

How bout we just eliminate the VA system entirely and just give vets better health insurance.

That would likely cost taxpayers a lot more.

A quarter of that is going to veterans healthcare it seems. Not sure that would be good to cut

But to where exactly?

This is what that 96 bill did.

Of course John Bolton is trying to turn lemons into lemonade by saying everything that DOGE finds should be redirected to the Defense Department so that they can murder more kids.

Just shows that Congress is lazy and not doing their job.

Would actually producing a budget flesh this kind of stuff out?

I think that should be high on the DOGE list. Don't find anything unless it is part of the annual budget that has at least passed a minimal amount of scrutiny/debate.

I guess Bolton doesn't understand that the DoD is also on the DOGE to do list!

They are mining things like GAO and CBO reports and summary statements. We can't do this with a shotgun blast approach. We need scalpels, not sledge hammers.

This sounds like Uniparty bullshite speak

“Take a measured approach”
“Can’t die on this hill”
“Don’t rock the boat”

frick that. We needed scalpels when it was stage 1 cancer 20 years ago. Now it’s stage 4 and only aggressive chemo will save us

I’m all for eliminating the VA and govt just pay the premiums of private top healthcare plans for veterans. Would be cheaper and they’d get better care

Dept of VA has almost 400 billion budget. You can get a top notch health plan for about 15k a year. Mine is around 1,200 a month for BCBS best plan in MS. That’s about 238bn a year for all veterans

Is DOGE going to have any inroads to Congress to actually get anything cut? I like this idea of seeing the waste, but it is no different than back in the 70s when Carson would do segments about wasteful government spending. Everyone laughs and complains about it, but nothing ever gets cut.

Looks good on the surface, but one thing left out is the role that the VA Hospitals play in Resident Training and medical training in general.

A different approach might be to increase the number of resident slots nationwide and get more residents into the VA to help speed things up.

The authorization for that Act expired, but the need did not.

Then they either need to update the act, or lose the money.

DOGE is pointing out shitty parts of our government. They obviously will have to drill down to the minute level, but they are just pointing out huge flaws in government at this point.

Obviously everything they point out, won't end up being cut. That doesn't mean it isn't still an issue.

This is actually a great comment and highlights a problem we're going to have with DOGE.

Ya know, I'm surprised the blob hasn't had a bigger reaction to DOGE. They should know much of their grift will be discovered, such as this.

They are PISSED behind closed doors right now. Their grift and gravy train is coming to an end.

My 2 cents. If republicans frick with the VA or VA funding directly to veterans they’ll never win another election. They’d be smart to eliminate all the other bullshite first.

My experience with the VA healthcare has been mostly positive and I find the care to be better than what Ive received in the past at Ochnser. It can’t be discounted that I live very close to a VA hospital. Now the gate keepers to care is another story.
