Was thinking about the kind of support Trump has, and its so much different than most relationships between the public and politicians. His supporters actually really care for him on an emotional level, not just support for his policies and who he is as a person.

Was thinking of who has or had similar support.. my first thought was maybe Obama, but i feel like his supporters saw him as a god more than anything.. but Huey P really had a support of people who loved him and really couldnt be told any different no matter what he did.

I think the common theme between the two, is for whatever reason, they were able to connect to people and make them believe that they truly cared about them and would fight for them against the people they also hated.

Any other examples you guys can think of?

Huey was far left. He had very little in common politically with Trump

Hmmmm not really. Long had some socialist leaning ideas. The whole "chicken in every pot" idea was not empowering people to earn a better living to buy the chicken, but taking from those who had and give to those who had not.

Huey used system to gain financially
Trump doesn’t need that , so there is one difference
But yes people feel strongly about Trump like Huey
Huey did a lot for Louisiana even though he was dangerous with power!
Share our wealth is another difference , not
Iikely that Trump would agree with that policy
Trump did a lot for the people too
He just knows business better than politicians

I don’t think Huey shot in any of his ears, though. Dude had some big old ears, but none of them took a bullet.

Huey Long was a communist. Even FDR considered Long to be a communist.

Bernie Sanders is the only current politician who you can compare to Long.

Not by their policies but absolutely by the political styles and the reaction to them. People here won’t be able to differentiate the two. That was the first thing I picked up when I watched the Huey P Long Ken Burns doc. It was like they were talking about Trump.

They're both hated by the political establishment and party leaders. They're both hated by the media. They're both loved by people in rural areas and blue collar workers. They're both absolute bulls in the political china shop. They were both shot. Both labeled their opponents with great nicknames. Both could speak for hours and were best in a rally setting.

"He was often called a buffoon. But he was brilliant. He could be a buffoon, but that was a character of Huey Long. He was brilliant."

- Sen Jennings Randolph

"I was elected railroad commissioner of Loosiana in nineteen hundred and eighteen. And they tried to impeach me in nineteen hundred and twenty. When they failed to impeach me in nineteen hundred and twenty, they indicted me in nineteen hundred and twenty one. And when I wiggled through that I managed to become governor in nineteen hundred and twenty eight. And they impeached me in nineteen hundred and twenty nine."

- Huey P Long

In terms of being a thorn in the side of the machine, sure.

In terms of political ideology, not at all.

Between conservatives and progressives, it is not the conservatives that are emotional. Your entire OP is based upon a false premise.

Seems you’re the only one intelligent enough to understand I clearly didn’t mean policy, but their relationship to the voters… and yeah even a lot of similar style

The way they seem to want total control and loyalty, yes. Jeff Landry portrays those characteristics more than Trump.

Ideology…absolutely not.
