No they ignore you unless you call with a large campaign contribution.

No. NRA, PETA, environmental groups, motor cyclists, air boaters, etc., all have great phone banking operations so they may be able to flood a telephone system or an email boxes but ultimately money is what it boils down to. Our "leaders" are are voting based on money and power and how to keep a hold on both.

They really do track what constituent calls say about given issues. They don’t necessarily always follow it, but it can inform strategy on what issues to focus on.

The ability to actually change the mind of an elected official based on constituent calls goes up exponentially as you move lower down the food chain from Congress to state legislature to local councils. Those folks don’t get a ton of calls, so when they do, they tend to take notice.

All this.

Plus, while people complain about "canned responses" from congressmen, remember there are "canned" emails and calls to them from interest groups.

Does your congressman know who you are? Have you attended a town hall or other event when you weren't there just to complain? Politicians have amazing memories for people and they spend a LOT of time trying to reach out to constituents. But if the only time you talk to them is to call their office to bitch; yeah it's not going to be super effective.

The likelihood of them listening to you is directly proportionate to your bank account. They are whores.

There is no reason not to call. The left is calling and harassing people. Don't be afraid to do the same. The left uses their tactics because they work. We disenfranchise ourselves when we refuse to participate.

Some are better than others, but all of them are pretty insulated from their constituents.

They know that all they have to do is get more money from lobbyist to outspend the competitors on the next election. Want to get their ear, give em shitloads of money.

Yes, it puts them on the record. You need to always email them or write them a letter so you have a record of the communication. The only way for us to change this government without violence is for the citizens to join together in a class action suit against representatives and demand a jury trial. Our lawyers in this country are sold out pussies that spend their entire career chasing a retainer.

Back in the day the interns had drop down letter generators

They processed your email/call, picked several levels of response (ie, foreign policy, trade agreements, trade with Mexico, agriculture imports from Mexico), and it generated a letter that went out. I'm sure it's the same now just less cumbersome.

i wouldnt really care what any random person has to complain about. im not sure why they would care. unless you have an exceptionally poor radar for deciding good policy vs bad policy, most people have a general feel if something is popular/unpopular and they make their choice from there.

It’s generally a waste of time given the canned or no response. I used to do it and tried to be polite figuring I’d get a more honest response. Nope, didn’t happen.

Abandoning the polite emails for angry emails calling them out didn’t work either. Got the same canned or no response.

They flat out couldn’t care less about their constituents. Sad but true.

I've emailed Cassidy a few times telling him what I think of him. In strong, but non-threatening, non-obscene language, of course. And always based upon issues.

Never received even a form response. In fact, I'm not sure I didn't get put on a few lists.

No. That check cleared the bank before he or she announces what they’re backing/voting for.

It depends. The greater the amount of people they represent, the less doing so is effective. For instance, calling your state legislature representative can have a big impact. Same, but to a lesser extent, with with your congressional rep. US Senators? They could not give any less of a shite about what you want. That is a career for them, and they will only listen to the lobbyist and big donors...even if it is completely against the wishes of their constituency. Look no further than Bill Cassidy in LA. He pretended to be a staunch conservative right up until the point he was reelected? After that, he doesn't care what you have to say because he's got 5 more years until he has to pretend to give a damn about you.

I sent an email to Senator Hawley about the $40 billion to Ukraine and got a really nice letter back from him, which I thought was pretty cool. He voted against it, so I can obviously take credit for that.

Not the greatest odds, but it can make an impact when backed in numbers.
