I’m planting our old back 80 hayfield in strawberries and quitting my job if strawberries bring 30 bucks a pint.

Clean your own doghouse sized apartment.

and $100,000 for a new roof on your normal-sized house,

Again. If roofing a house brings 100k, I’m quitting my job and buying scaffolding.

I'll weigh in on that.

Physically you could really be any age.

Mentally and emotionally I'd say about 14.

That's exaggerating to say the least but it will cost more - at first. It will settle out as soon as we get citizens trained to do it. It will still cost more but not as much as the examples given. But yes, I will pay more if it's reasonable. If it's not, then I will wait for the demand to drive the price. That's how our economy works.

This is literally the same argument that pro-slavery people made in the mid-1800s, Jill.

Correct.

Not to mention, if we just stopped paying able bodied people to sit around scratching off Lotto tickets, we'd have multiple problems solved at once.

Including this one.

Chatting with a rich kid at SMU. His dad was on the board of Microsoft in Dallas. Me: 'I bet ya'll have a maid.' Him: 'In our neighborhood it's how many maids per floor.'

He also said it is a culture that white & black guys do not want to join because the Hispanics flat out outwork them and never complain.

No they don’t wanna join because they wanna eat, but not work. And the government allows that to happen.

But… the bigger issue is there is a massive shortage of qualified labor available to build in our metro.
That's because your home builder buddy doesn't want to pay Americans (including Hispanic Americans) a living wage that a proper craftsman should be paid.

50% increase is stupid, it's pure conjecture, but I'll tell you this: the money you may, "save," having 3rd worlders who can't even read English build your home is a huge mistake. They do shoddy work. Their craftsmanship is atrocious, and it shouldn't be a surprise: they were living in metal shacks a few short years ago for the entirety of their lives.

I did hear from quite a respected home builder in our area that if you were to kick all the Hispanics out building costs would increase by at least 50%

Well, your "respected" builder is a moron.

That's not how markets work.

That's bullshite. Noted that you stated, "all the Hispanics", not all of the 'illegal' Hispanics. If he's using 'illegal' Hispanics, then that is not a 'respected' builder in my book. Maybe yours. Not mine.

Secondly, labor accounts for 40% of the cost of building a home, then is marked up by 30%, as are materials, so let's say it's 40% of the total.

By Specific Trade (Approximate 2025 Averages for Residential New Construction):

Low end is non-union. High end is union.

General Laborer $18–$25
Framer/Carpenter $25–$40
Drywall/Finisher $25–$38
Plumber (journeyman) $35–$55
Electrician (journeyman) $35–$60
HVAC Installer $30–$50
Concrete/Mason $25–$45

So, basically, an average of $30 per hour. If you made that an average of $40 an hour, you would increase cost of labor by 33%. So if you take $400k in costs of labor on a $1M house you would add another $100k to the price of the home, making it a 10% markup.

However, I believe that your builder is probably paying under that $30 an hour average if he's using illegals, plus saving on insurance costs and taxes, but not passing along his cost savings to the consumer. Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe in human nature, and human nature says he maximizes profit over ethics if he's the type to pay illegals.

I don't think we can deport fast enough to cause some of the effects cited in any of these cases. Some estimates are as high as 90 million illegals in our country. For some reason, ICE says there are 11 million. Maybe that is just the targeted group. What is our current deportation rate; 163 per day? Total is 163,000. Give me a break. One per cent is not going to do much but let's bitch anyway. Added note: there are 360,000 in detention I assume awaiting hearings for asylum or deportation.

Is this person a college kid or NYC POS Yankee.

She doesn’t own anything and should focus her life better.

If you are living in a freaking 1-bedroom apartment, why are you paying someone to clean it??? I'm sure there are people to pay someone to cut their grass for 1/10th of an acre lot. A fool and their money are soon parted.
