find myself torn on this. On one hand, career politicians have proven that they only care about and look out for themselves. On the other hand, there are so many off kilter, woke idiots in the world that I'm not sure if having new blood in congress would actually help.

Yes. #1 it makes lobbying money less effective .

#2 the logic of well i like this but I need to protect myself for reelection goes away for far more politicians.

#3 if we frick it up we aren't stuck with the political machine propping them up forever on the go forward.

furrydogs Do you think term limits for Congress would actually help our situation? If we had term limits we probably wouldn't have had Joe Biden. He would have had to have found a real job 30 years ago.

If congressional term limits of 12 years were in effect you wouldn't have Pelosi, Schmucky, Nadler, McConnell, Manchin, Feinstein, Sanders and many more, including Republicans. Things would certainly be different and I have to believe for the better too.

Personally I am a fan of 4 year terms for house members with a maximum of 3 terms (12 years).

No term limit for senators but as house members are term limited out, they will likely to run for senate increasing competition. And weirdly enough, Senate seats are more competitive than house seats even now. House incumbents very rarely lose.

If we just made the voters pay for the stuff they want it would fix most issues. Let all the liberal have single payer healthcare , new green deal , massive welfare ect all payed out of their checks .

We are rolling further into a period where the people no longer have representation

Still plenty of idiots to replace current idiots, but it is worth a shot. You shouldn't have decades in public office.

The permanence of congress is how you get people like AOC and Beto. Bundlers, PACs, and party bosses will happily invest MILLIONS in failed campaigns if needed just to get these puppet candidates' name out there, knowing that if they can eventually get in - its essentially a life long appointment with minimal investment.

Limit terms and you might get stuck with a Beto, but you'll be rid of him eventually. And how financially motivated will California mega donors be to get a guy like Beto in there if his term is limited?

No

It would make it worse.

I know that seems counter-intuitive but, it's reality.

Think about what the supposed problem is. A bunch of entrenched people in congress working primarily for the benefit of their donors.

OK. That is a problem. Now let's look at the "cure" of term limits.

Getting elected / re-elected requires having good name recognition at the least. That takes money. Term limits would mean that the need for name recognition becomes magnified for more people.

Let's fact it. Like or not, Pelosi isn't gonna lose again. Same for most Republicans who have been there a long time. Those people have many problems but desperate need for $$ to get their name out there isn't one of them.

I think a 10 mile wide sinkhole filled with lava, that opens up directly under the capitol would REALLY help our situation. Preferably during the state of the union address. Republicans are just as worthless as democrats. The only difference is the republicans talk about "doing right or upholding the constitution" while doing absolutely nothing.

All politicians are as worthless as a giant bag of nothing.

(No Mr. FBI man I cannot create a sinkhole (with or without lava) so dont park a SUV outside my house.)

No.

Them making money is the evil. This should not be a desirable job. It should be a job, like a pastor/priest/nurse that is a calling. Only people that have sincere interest in our country and its future should want it b/c they feel compelled.... not because they can sell that influence.

It should be that these men and women should have VERY scrutinized money flow.

Yes. It would. And we would still need more to help our situation.

The federal government is massive. There are way more lifers on the government payroll in random bureaucratic agencies than in Congress.

If you pass congressional term limits, you must also pass employment term limits for government employees and contractors.

This is the correct answer.

Actually, the opposite is true

Replaced by, "I need to run but no one knows who the frick I am so I need a crap ton of money to get my name out there" for FAR FAR more politicians.

I think it's funny how many of you don't realize that the problem is the machine, not the people the machine is propping up.
