I find that I much prefer the politicians who reneg on the things they said they would do as opposed to those who reneg on what they said they wouldn’t do.

this. the demo this is affecting grew up with elders preaching the world aint fair. Then boomers cry bloody murder when they discover they are right.

Cancelling student debt would allow millions of people to pump more money into the economy instead of spinning their wheels making monthly payments for a worthless degree they got years ago.

also this. It makes more fiscal sense to address the student loan crisis. we reached a tipping point where the status quo is a bigger burden on the economy. lets get these folks spending that money on bitcoin, land, business etc. Id much rather bail out people getting an education than foreign countries, mismanaged liberal states, corporations, and covid checks.

I dont think he'll manage to pull it off. Maybe like $5k for underprivileged groups. My wife has quit paying on hers though. As long as interest is 0 we might as well wait and see how it shakes out.

So who's going pull out a $50k student loan now as a hedge that he'll do it? Seems like a decent plan to pay off the car or something

Fair enough, but in the same vein its just rewarding bad behavior and that is a problem.

Will he do it. I use to think no way but the amount of fairy dust being sprinkled in DC makes me think it could happen. I paid my 100K worth of loans back. It took me 18 years to do it. It did slow down my ability to get ahead but then again I understood that when I took the money for school. I could get behind a low artificial interest rate even once rates go back up to help. Just wiping out large swaths of debt though will have consequences beyond just the quantitative figure it ends up being. There are always unintended problems with drastic actions.

If EO Joe cancels $50k of student loan debt he’s telling the American people he’s clueless about what the intrinsic value/meaning of money truly is, in other words, he’s showing responsible Americans he’s not only a complete loon he’s also woefully ill equipped to be the leader of the free world.

You talking about Joe's handlers, right? Joe is out hiding his own Easter eggs after someone told him it was Easter.

Some of y’all are so pathetic with your anger. Who gives a frick if some kid has their loans forgiven? You think it will make you happy if they have to repay them for the next 30 years? Will that bring some joy to your life?

It’s them or us, moron. You apparently aren’t capable of understanding that loans aren’t forgiven, the debt is transferred.

I honestly think he will. I don't know why he would ask for an opinion from the Secretary of Education if he wasn't considering it.

Cool. Does this carry forward? Why wouldn’t the first 50K of everyone’s college expenses be free going forward?

I had fun in college. I’d go back today if it was free, and have myself 50K worth of fun.

I don't know. It would be a stupid thing to do and would be terrible for our country.

I just think he's going to do it. I bet we hear something before the interest-free, no payments required period ends in September.

Hope so. I’m retirement age, and always wanted to go back to college for a fourth round, but the cost was holding me back. I’d move to a college town to retire, and make that 50K freebie last as long as possible.

hope he does, let the poor kids have a little more money in their bank accounts.

I was a poor kid. I paid off my loans.

Instead of going to an Harvard, which I got accepted to, or Penn or Yale, I went to a much cheaper state school.

Anyone who went to college after 2005 got completely screwed by the federal government.

Explain how someone gets screwed when they willingly went into an agreement.

This would make up for it.

This does not. It redistributed wealth because the colleges got theirs.

So this whole thing is stupid. First of all biden isn't doing anything. He doesn't even tie his shoes.

It is what his handlers will do.

And getting rid of 50k of debt is stupid. Unless the colleges that took the money pay it back. That is fine.

We need to fix the issue of cost of college, paying back 50k of debt is not the answer.

In fact it is the opposite of the answer. Instead of Addressing the cause, just throw money at it.

This would make no sense. It would be a mistake and would cause people to double down on stupid decisions while in college, without solving the problem.

This is exactly why biden will do it. There was no doubt it was going to happen once it was recommended. Please, what is it, a trillion dollars? Child play.

Money machine go whirl.

And in five years we will be back in the same situation!

This money was already put into the economy when the loan was taken. Raising taxes to cover this debt takes money out of the economy now.
