Harris was a broke arse poor Irish kid when he went to Turnwold Plantation. Southerners didn't treat him too well, either.

He wrote down stories he heard and enjoyed from slaves he hung out with there. The stories don't belittle them. Uncle Remus was portrayed as extremely wise and admirable.

It's the eye dialect that gets people rustled. Harris attempted to document the stories as he heard them.

Bingo. His writings were a work of art and a huge piece of US history. People need to fight this crap right now. They will never be satisfied.

I mean the south exists... and it’s a culture known for many bad things but also much more good things such as sweet tea, hospitality, bed and breakfasts, soul food, etc.
It won’t ever be repressed either. Even though the Confederates lost the war the culture has continued and the people down here are all about it.

Wasn’t Brer Rabbit basically an allegory for a slave who was always outsmarting his masters to avoid work? I’ve never seen the movie, but I toured Laura Plantation once as a kid, and Brer Rabbit was a part of the history.

If they’re going to remodel the ride, they should definitely go “Emperor’s New Groove”.

which is based on the controversial 1946 Disney film “Song of the South.”

HOW is Song of the South controversial? It allowed the first black man in history to win an oscar. It should be revered by the black community. Is it because James Baskett was black and talked like a black man from 1946, which is somehow now considered racist?

They see it as stereotyping and putting a happy face on slavery.

You could be wrong on the ghosts being all white . The black ones just cannot be seen . Still Disney is wrong even with that , the black ghost are not noticed and have no voice .

That whole side of the park is exactly as I remember it being 35 years ago.
I can't believe it took them this long to find something raciss about it. There's some old school stuff there.

They should do a Tiana's Place restaurant with NOLA food, though. Obviously separate from Splash Mountain
