It is past time we as a society start using Turks to play the role of Santa.

This is like saying we should use Egyptian actresses to play Cleopatra.

Both of them were Greek.

It's a different movie that isn't tied to the ones Tim Allen has done.

They aren't replacing Tim Allen with Danny Glover. They independently cast Danny Glover for an unrelated Christmas movie.

Exactly. This is much ado about nothing.

Come on. They are not replacing him. They are doing a new movie in a different franchise. Hell, Allen is still portraying Santa in a TV series of his franchise. This is nothing. You can’t expect Allen to play every Santa Clause in every Disney movie until he dies. That’s not how this works.

Anyone wanna tell him who Danny Glover is?

JJ was panting the local bum and someone thought it looked like Black Jesus.

The militant midget is the one who really ran with it IIRC.

This is ridiculous...Danny Glover does not look anything like St. Nicholas...but, then again, neither does Tim Allen.

The real Saint Nicholas was of Greek descent. If they really want accuracy, they should cast a Greek actor...like:
Hank Azaria
Michael Chiklis
Zach Galifianakis
Hugh Jackman (1/4 Greek)
Ralph Macchio (1/4 Greek)
Jason Mantzoukas (Pimento on Brooklyn 99)

Of course...it would be horrible to watch...but if Hollywood is really concerned about racial appropriation...then that is the only way to go.

The first Christmas movie he was ever in was Lethal Weapon.

I think Glover is a respected actor for mainstream entertainment. Disney bases choices on what’s more likely to ptroduce revenue.

That must be why their CEO made a public statement about them backing out of the woke wars.

I’d pay to watch him as Santa, or better yet Vic Mackey undercover as Santa.

If I was a minority I would be ashamed amd embarrassed by the blatantly on purpose casting these days. It kinda says "the reason we picked these actors is based 99% on skin color"

It's how they pick Senators and VPs as well.

Friend,

Now we get into the tricky and poorly defined definitions of race and ethnicity. St. Nicholas was from Patara, in modern day Turkey, which was controlled by the Byzantine Empire during St. Nicholas’s life. If you want to be both nationally, and religiously accurate, it would seem a Turkish Christian would be best for the role. I believe there are about 300,000 from which to choose. As for ethnicity or race, no one knows what St. Nicholas’s was. If you have his DNA records, that could help in our deciding who would be the actor most faithful to history for the role.

It is unlikely that Tim Allen’s plump and cherry cheeked appearance was anything like the original.

Yours,

Santa has been different colors depending on the Country for years now. Mexico has used Hispanic Santa’s forever. Who cares what color he is as long as he brings us stuff.
