Yes and the entire bus incident was planned. Another woman was the first a few weeks prior but they chose not to use her because she was a pregnant single mom… weirdly enough I recently discovered that this little piece of information is a major point of contention with some within the black community as many see the first woman as the real hero and Rosa and those who orchestrated as opportunists.

Yeah these kind of truths are raciss though. Don't know if it's talked about in this interview, as I haven't found time to watch it as it's long as he k but it's an interesting topic....if allowed on here.

FIFY. Claudette Colvin was her name, I believe.

Using her would not have gotten those "on the fence" to side with those supporting civil rights.

Rosa Parks, OTOH, was a married woman with steady employment. That's why she agreed to take part.

The Baton Rouge boycott happened two years before Rosa Park. That BR boycott served a game plan for Rosa Park.

The difference was Rosa Parks was attractive.

This is a very interesting thread. Didn’t know that Colvin was the “first”.

Claudette Colvin was the original girl.

She was 15 and pregnant by a white man so the NAACP staged it. Rosa Parks was a secretary at the Montgomery office of the NAACP.

My shitty high school had a great history teacher.

FWIW there was a bus boycott in BR pre-RP; don't know why it never gets mentioned

Yep, 2 years before the Montgomery boycott. MLK spoke with the organizer of the BR boycott and modeled the Montgomery boycott off of it.

Not the point I was trying to make. Many believe the first woman to be the legitimate hero and it angers a good many of them to find out of her existence. She’s largely forgotten and but a footnote in history. Many don’t like the fact that civil rights leaders used her experience to orchestrate the situation with RP but cast her, a single mother aside and essentially deemed her unfit to be a focal point of the movement.

It's crazy. I sit here and read all of the bs propaganda that these inbreds have. Not one has an actual brain cell you do any research and read for themselves. They just listen to whatever justifies their racist views.

Yes, they had a car. But in the communities they're from, it was VERY common for people to use public transportation. People even do it now in 2024. Back then they only occasionally used their cars, but more frequently used public transportation.

I keep seeing yall put filth Claudette Colvins name. She is famous because she was in a similar incident as Rosa Parks 9 months BEFORE Rosa Parks had her incident. It wasn't because of some plot or because Claudette was pregnant. It had already happened to her, and her name became more famous over time because people thought it happened to Rosa first.

All you have to do is substitute that 3 minutes of time where you're fricking your daughters with just picking up a book or doing correct research. Not fueling your hatred for anyone with a tan with conspiracy theories.

It makes no difference whether staged protest or spontaneous
It was civil disobedience of unjust laws

I always found it interesting how black people are very judgmental about the skin tone of other black people. To white people it’s not even on their radar.
