Striking a blow against wokeism and smiting groomers
Ron DeSantis has seized control of Disney's formerly self-governing district in Florida, announcing that Disney must repay $700 million in debt and begin paying taxes.
In a dramatic escalation of his long-running battle against Disney, the Florida governor on Monday announced he was taking control of the Reedy Creek board.
The five-member board oversees nearly 40 square miles of Florida, on which the Walt Disney World Resort is built.

This is all a bunch of baloney.
Disney and the governor's office have been in negotiations for months that will allow both sides to claim a win.
Reedy Creek will be renamed. The Governor can claim oversight but Disney will continue to run their business on their private land as they see fit.
It's not being dissolved as Desantis originally desired because Disney was correct in that their debt would then pass on to taxpayers in Osceola and Orange counties.
This is just politics. In reality, not a damn thing will change.
More government control makes every business worse not better. Everyone involved knows this. It's purely politics.

"So basically Woke Disney gets to keep its nearly tax-free, regulation-free status—but with a different Board," Anthony Sabatini, a former Republican member of the Florida House of Representatives, tweeted. "What a massive capitulation this is. HUGE win for Woke Disney. BIG loss for conservatives."
Alex Bruesewitz, a conservative political strategist, wrote: "So Desantis' big stand against woke Disney amounts to: changing the name of Reedy Creek & DeSantis gets to appoint some of his donors to the board? But Disney gets to keep its nearly tax-free, regulation-free status."
