You all do realize when they have a special election to replace an empty seat the other side is not involved. It was an open previous democrat seat so only democrats were on the ticket. The actual election that involves Republicans will happen in November.

Everything in this post is wrong.

No one likes the GOP, they are weak and feckless. They never seem to have the will to get anything done, and cater to any pressure, mostly because everyone up there is making millions to whatever caused de jour. Trump was a F’u to both parties, and on these elections when he isn’t on the ballot, expect the turnout to not be the same..

If this has you questioning everything about elections with crazy outliers that seem to buck every trend in the history of ever, then you must still be up at night trying to reconcile the "results" of the 2020 Presidential election

You’re being sarcastic, but it is a combination of a very unimportant election, the weather, and the fact that republicans are now the party with the low propensity to turnout voter. We will consistently see republicans underperform in off year elections, or overperform in big elections, however you want to view it.

But they do displace voters who leave the metroplex due to lack of job opportunities.

There are also 2nd and 3rd order effects outside of the inability to vote.

And those are disproportionately republicans?

If anything this is a sign of Texas Republicans not getting the vote out for this special state election. Nothing more.

I don't know anything about this race, but not getting the vote out is not a minor thing. It's why many elections are lost and it is an indication that a voting based is apathetic about their candidate.

It doesn’t matter how red the county is. If the county is 90% republican and 10 voters leave - 9 republican and 1 democrat - the county is still 90% republican. If 1 leaver is republican and 9 are democrat then you have a story and a cause. Hence my question:

And those are disproportionately republicans?
I am asking if those leaving are a different proportion of republicans and democrats than the status quo ante. If not, it makes no difference.

It was a special election for an empty democrat seat. So just like when Matt Gaetz left and left his seat open. Its a vote to fill a seat that was already democrat. The nyt already ran this story and it was 2 democrats on the ballot.
