Need to gauge my outrage appropriately

If the roles were reversed this might be a death penalty case. The simple fact is American's hero worship of police creates a two-tiered system of justice in cases like these.

This is an incredibly infuriating story. That cop should have been charged and had a BAC test immediately.

Horse shite.
Pure, unadulterated corruption is why she isn't charged or in cuffs (and why we won't be able to prove she was either drunk or high as a kite). She killed a PwC consultant after entering his home illegally. There will be nothing short of intense outrage over this, and it will be directed to Dallas PD leadership if they don't arrest and charge her by EOD.

I don't get what happened to her. The article says the police had "yet to interview" her and that she's now on "administrative leave."
So, what happened last night? Oh, well, shite happens. Go find YOUR BED now and rest easy, officer. Maybe we'll talk about this later. No need to come in tomorrow, though.

Hmmm, conspicuously absent from so many of your posts about police are numerous examples of the good they do and the lives they save(of course there are some bad cops, not ignoring that small element). You wouldn't be pushing an agenda would you?

If I walked into someone else’s house illegally and shot them, I would be charged.

I'm no cop hater, but if that bitch doesn't see the inside of a jail cell very soon, I might be one of the protesters this time.

Well, that’s what you could call a major frick up.

Should have just left it at that.

Gross negligence sounds right. That would still make it an accident.

Negligent Homicide at least right? We'll see. This story is weird as hell.

Based on what data exactly? How many cases have you seen where the cop walked into the wrong apartment, technically off duty, thinking it was their apartment? I would imagine the answer would be close to zero, so your back of the napkin calculations are probably suspect to start with...
BTW, I am not defending what she did and I think she should be prosecuted but you guys thinking that a human being can pull the trigger, ending someone's life and go home and sleep like a baby are beyond ridiculous and show just how little you know about any of this...

Very doubtful but I can see your distaste for police officers in general is clouding your judgement on the matter...

A couple different sources. There have been 80 police officers charged with killing people from 2005-2017. Around 1/3 were found guilty. So, in cases where the situation was egregious enough to bring charges, only 1/3 were found guilty.
Another study found that of over 3,000 police officers charged with crimes, only 1/3 were convicted. And of those convicted, only 1/3 of them served any time.

Gross negligence is the "lack of slight diligence or care" or "a conscious, voluntary act or omission in reckless disregard of a legal duty and of the consequences to another party
Not an accident.

Actually cops can’t get bac tested that’s for civilians

I certainly wouldn't want such a person possessing a loaded gun in my neighborhood.

DPD just got a pay raise. They are now in the ballpark of other cities close by. 60k now, 45k then. Who would put their life in the line for 45k in Dallas when the suburbs pay 60^
