False. They don’t have to prove anything.
I don't know how the rules work for carrying huge sums of cash around...I thought you had to have some paperwork for sums over a certain amount. I assume there is a method for her getting that money returned to her.
If a cop were taking my hard earned, legit $100,000.00 I'm going to jail for something.

That's not how this works. It is her responsibility to show burden of proof. She is assumed guilty here.

I mean, Cocaine has not gone out of style except with maybe the insane Woke since Cocaine is a very social drug and you split it up.

This stuff is puzzling to me. I would never try to carry 100K on a plane. However, crypto could solve this problem.

Then she should be arrested and charged with trafficking.

But they took it because of supposed criminal acts. Why would it be civil?

Because the property is on trial, not her, and property has far fewer rights than you do in terms of available compulsory legal counsel, habeas corpus, Miranda rights, etc.

Try reading that again & consider the context then find me a case that wasn’t involving/preceded by nefarious actions/involvement.
I literally had this conversation within the last month with a county then federal prosecutor whose role was internal departmental crimes.
Crazy shite happens w/ both types of asset forfeiture but they all have one thing in common.. there’s specific criminal activity involved.
I had found a legit case that created the conversation, they are extremely rare.

I have seen this happen. A junk yard owner learned that the bank had to report every deposit over $10,000 cash. He would never deposit over 10k so he would deposit 9,900 or 9,800 etc.
Long story short DHS showed up with a warrant made the bank press an official check for all of his money - almost $300,000.
He did absolutely nothing wrong. It took him nearly 9 months to get his money back and I don’t know how much he paid his attorneys to get it back. My guess is a lot.
This type of thing happens all the time and it is absolute DOG shite! Civil asset forfeiture should not be a thing until convicted if a crime by a jury of your peers.

Merely having cash isn’t grounds for forfeiture on domestic flights.
They can seize your money for any reason, or no reason, they just have to say they think something is suspicious. They don’t need to arrest you or anything, same goes when you have cash on your person or in a car.

Because there's no threat of jail time.

Actually TSA is who usually tip off the cops to large amounts of money on flights. They see it when they scan the carry on and get a bounty from the police for anything confiscated. It’s basically a legal kickback for stealing your money.

Never should have done it. What happened to David Dorn was horrific, but he was a good cop in a sea of bad. Any cop with any self respect has resigned by now unless they have a good department.
