I don't think every cop, or every police department is corrupt. If they were, everyone would be getting arrested for no reason.
Here's the problem: you have no idea if they're corrupt, and let me expand on that using just one example. Several years ago 2 cops hit a parked car on the side of the street. I think the guy was in it but it wasn't running. They lied, said he pulled out in front of him, and even took him down to the station. He said they even told him they were sorry but the driver wasn't about to lose his job over this. Fortunately a camera captured the whole thing and it got set right. These two cops had never done anything wrong to my knowledge, but when they made an honest mistake and had the option to punish someone else for it they took it.
The number of "I'm going to plant drugs in your car because you've got a Bama bumper sticker" is hopefully very low. The problem arises when your well being is at odds with the cop's well being for whatever reason. The number of them that'll screw you in that situation is a lot higher, and the number of "good cops" who might not do it but won't rat on their buddies is well over 90% and probably approaching 100% depending on the circumstances.

This has been going on forever. You can’t just walk around with drug money that’s not claimed.
Not saying it’s right or wrong, but it’s not new.
If everyone else has to pay taxes, so should she.
The thing that has fricked me up the most about this pandemic is it has shown we are a nation of cowards. People like you would rat your neighbors to the Gestapo if you suspected they were hiding Jews simply out of cowardice. “Listen, I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, but they knew for years that harboring Jews was illegal. I’m not going to have the Gestapo knocking down my doors if they suspect I knew about it. But hey man, rules are rules.”
Here’s a simple answer on whether to follow a rule or not: is the rule wrong or evil? If it is, then don’t follow it and give these authoritarian twats the bird. If people would stop being fricking cowards like yourself, this would end in five fricking seconds.

Do you think they do this with Jeff Bezos or Bill Gates? Of course they don’t and I’m willing to bet they take $10K+ over international borders all the time. But hey, we’re the peasants and rules are rules, right?
“Govern me harder Daddy Government! Spank me, Daddy Government because I’ve been a bad little boy taking money over international borders. Only you and the oligarchs can do that while I continue to let you frick me in the arse.” You people that don’t question the law are fricking lemmings.

I agree, she's entitled to due process. However my point remains, if this is cartel related she will never complain that her due process rights were violated.
They didn't charge her. She shouldn't have to complain. The cops are crooked thieves and should be fired with prejudice.

Actually, she should.
She violated 31 USC § 5316 which requires that any person traveling internationally declare any amount of undeclared cash in excess of $10,000.
Doesn't matter if she was charged, the statute does not require this.
Like it or not, she didn't declare and she isn't going to contest.

It's unconstitutional, jackass. That's the point. It shouldn't be the government's business how much money I have or where I have it. This is basic civil liberties, the fourth amendment.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
I have a right to be secure in my person. Even if I get on an airplane and leave the U.S. This is corrupt and criminal theft.

Maybe she was traveling to a government auction where they require you pay the day of in cash? Those happen frequently in my area. Only rich folks can go and buy assets for pennies on the dollar because most folks would still have to finance the purchase.

It blows my mind that people support this. You'd think it would be an easy issue for the entire political spectrum to condemn.

Divide and conquer is the strategy. However, at this point, the only ones truly supporting it, I think are the cop union trolls.

You seem to be under the assumption that people are upset about this particular woman, probably a drug mule, losing her cash. You should expand your thinking, and by no small amount.

Well that escalated.
I'm just playing devil's advocate. However, it's not unconstitutional as it relates to the facts presented.
The Fourteenth Amendment says that the government shall not "deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process of law.
Additionally, notwithstanding your personal feelings, the courts have found no 4th amendment violations when assets were seized from persons similarly situated in which the forfeitures arose out of the same facts and circumstances.
Regardless, even without considering rulings adverse to your position, this is a nonissue because the government cant deprive her of due process if she chooses not to avail herself.

No due process. No warrant. No compensation. It's unconstitutional.

There can't be a criminal conviction because there's no crime committed by the mule. Carrying cash isn't illegal. They just say "fly into D/FW, take a taxi to this Denny's, and our guy will meet you". They hand off the money, then get paid $1,500. The cartels purposely compartmentalize their operations. Drugs and money are kept as separate as possible.
Cool...prove that happened, and then you should get to keep the money.
Don't prove it happened, and you should not be able to keep the money.
The only law she may have broken is if she did not report the cash to customs. Law requires declaring amounts over $10,000. But actually bringing the cash in is not illegal.
Secondly, that's a federal issue, and these were city cops. They have no jurisdiction over the customs declaration.
Cops have been doing this for years. In Chattanooga a few years ago, police raided a local VFW hall where people were playing poker. They seized everyone's cash...about $10,000 total. The charges were dropped, but the city kept their money.
