The reason we are seeing more cases than other nations is because we are a huge country with different regions. The east coast was hit same time as Europe
The southwest is just now seeing it hit

I tend to agree with you Michigan.
I think the initial response of shutting everything down accomplished exactly what it was meant to do, flatten the curve to give us time to prepare for the outbreak.
I distinctly remember watching WH press conferences 2 months ago that discussed the strategy for reopening and attacking the hotspots as they emerged.

Right, a number of US states never did a voluntary lockdown, several others did partial lockdowns and their timing varied tremendously. Europe, meanwhile is made up of >50 countries, is more populous than we are, and massively denser than the US, has less unified governance, and yet they've managed to relatively suppress the pandemic.
There are probably many reasons, starting with the fact that the US rates of international travel are very high, we got bad information from China to start with, our leadership didn't take it as seriously as they should have, our CDC functioned poorly, and the messaging was badly politicized on top of our already horribly politicized infosphere. You just don't see partisan hay being made of the pandemic in Europe the way it is here. They're also countries that have more social trust, more inclination to follow public health recommendations (mask wearing, cooperating with contact tracing, isolating, treatment seeking, etc.), better management of getting public health disinfo off of social media, etc. Some or all of these differences are probably translating to public health outcomes.

Florida has done 3X the tests(1.5 million) of Louisiana and not even 2x the number of positives...and they haven't caught up to Louisiana's deaths yet (maybe this weekend).
Not sure it qualifies as an "emergency" just yet.
Orlando, St Pete and Tampa now have mandatory mask wearing. Probably south Florida too but this was just recent up here.

This is the link to the COVID-19 tracker that I have created and shared on Google Drive.
If you want to view the shared sheet, follow this link New COVID-19 Tracker
If you want to download a copy of this sheet and manipulate it follow this link Downloadable New COVID-19 Tracker
The source for the data is from https://covidtracking.com/data/
NOTE:
Based on feedback, I have created a new Dashboard page that I hope will present the data in an easier to consume format.
I have created a new state dashboard based on the new US Dashboard. You can choose the state and the date by changing the values in the top left of the sheet that are in the light yellow cells
I added a Week over Week section to the dashboard pages, this is located on the right-hand side of the Dashboard Pages.
I have left the previous dashboard page intact so you can still see the state rankings for a given day. I have renamed this tab "US Dashboard w State Rankings"

New Cases reached 31.7K today on the back of 579K tests with a Positivity rate of 5.5%. The 7 Day avg positivity rate rose to 4.9%, and is definitely on the upswing. The 7-day avg for new cases is up to 1.16% from its all-time low of 1.04% one week ago.
This near term graph of cases and positivity rate clearly shows the uptick in both.
The 579K tests today represents the 2nd highest day of testing ever. That the positivity rate is increasing in the face of a high volume of testing, is a sure indicator of overall growth in the outbreak. As you can see in this graph, as the testing volume has grown, the positivity rate has fallen. It appears that trend may be ending. I believe we need to see what happens over the next week to know if its a sustained upward trend or just a speedbump on the way down.
On a positive note, deaths continue to trend downward. The rate of the decline is a bit slower than it was a couple of weeks ago, but it's still falling.
Mortality fell again today, now down to 5.11%.

How are final numbers in so early?

I don't know what a proper nominal number would be, but you'd think it would have to settle somewhere.
What are other coronavirus types and flu types doing this time of year normally would be something I'd want to know.

Dad, my original tracker was based off of WorldOMeters numbers. That data set finalizes around 8PM CST every day. The problem with WoM's is that they don't provide an API for reading their data programmatically. Because of this, I switched my data source to the COVID Tracking Project's numbers. COVID Tracking Project, makes their numbers final around 5pm CST.
This causes a bit more variability in the daily numbers as sometimes states submit numbers after the CTP cutoff. You will see in the data for certain states/dates 0 values and then the following day will be double what it should be.
So, they are final based on the publishing schedule of the CTP.

The rise in cases but continuing decline in deaths points to a trend I’m sure we are seeing in a lot of states, including mine. More asymptomatic people are getting positive tests. Many employers are requiring testing as a part of calling forces back in from remotely working.
Tennessee as an example. On June 1, 65% of all confirmed cases were age 50 and under. That number is now 73%. Meanwhile 91% of the deaths are over 50, and that trend hasn’t changed more than a percentage point or 2 over the last month.

Bingo.
Younger people are getting tested and testing positive while asymptomatic

Many of the young people have correctly heard the very first symptom is loss of taste and get tested as soon as that happens.

Can we get a chart showing ICU bed use, hospitalizations, and ventilator use?
The spike in new cases isn’t really relevant without knowing how critical the matter is to the health system
ETA: we’ll know more in a couple weeks based on # deaths from the recent spike - good news is death is trending down, probably related to significant new testing being done

The data isn’t universally collected. And it’s not centrally located.
Posted on 6/21/20 at 11:21 am to mostbesttigerfanever
Mostbesttiger, The available data for Hospitalizations, ICU and Vents is incomplete. On the COVID Tracking website they have this comment on the subject.
I do have the information they publish on my tracker. If you go the to the Details tabs (US or State) you'll see the data and charts.
quote:
Note on hospitalization data: States and territories report two fundamentally unlike statistics: current hospital/ICU admissions and cumulative hospitalizations/ICU admissions. Some states and territories provide both, some provide one or the other, and a few report neither. It is therefore impossible to assemble accurate national totals for hospitalizations, ICU admissions, or ventilator usage.
