Just read the Dallas update and they said 23 of the 60 deaths have been at long term care facilities.

Its Sunday and the numbers took a nose dive again.
At least they are moving in the right direction.
Testing was up again today to 146K tests. The % positive was 14.3% against the cumulative 15.6% average.

We're at more than 20 where I work .. 7 more positive results today ... some have been sent to the hospital per family request but some really needed to. We've had our first death with a couple that are hanging on and idk how. from reading the EMRs I am thinking that we will have more deaths. A couple have been made hospice.
I literally love some of these people.
We're at more than 25% of our residents. God help them and the staff.

I'm praying this is the case. 7 were admitted to the iso unit today. The RNs are the nurse, the resp therapist, the CNAs, the housekeepers -- they're seriously doing the job of many. They're not the look at me types either -- I love my coworkers.

I know Sunday numbers aren’t particularly reliable, but we had more tests today than the last two sundays and fewer new cases than the last two sundays. I’ll take it.

Modeling by region for Louisiana from LDH. Not sure if this has been posted.
eta: I'm sitting here thinking about my residents. Thinking about what I think about social distancing now that so many are positive. You can't keep people in that environment apart. One dementia patient won't stay in her room -- keeps wheeling herself out and they bring her back. And she comes out again. And they put her back.
ALL. DAY.
I was in the "don't overwhelm the medical system" crowd. OK I can stay in for a couple of weeks. Then I was in the "let me out .. let it run it's course .. you can't outrun a virus .. the system isn't overwhelmed". And now idk where the f I stand.
Someone tell me what's rational at this point. I just don't even know anymore.

Here's my suggestion: Focus on yourself, you can't save all these people. Think of 3 things to be grateful for every day. Be grateful for all the blessings in your life.

If the spectrum runs from "It's the flu" and "It's the end of the world", we're much closer to "It's the flu."
It's a novel "flu" with novel complications and it is certainly nothing to play around with, but it is also not the end of the world. This has happened before and will happen again.

Here's my point, apart from the passive immunity conferred at birth, every illness we've ever had in our lives is from something that was "novel" to us on an individual basis.
So this being new to us isn't the issue, we get sick from new illness all the time.
This thing passes through a 50 year old and gives them zero symptoms and also kills their 52 year old coworker in 17 days. My money is on a yet to be determined genetic susceptibility.

The sad truth is pandora is out of her box. The China virus got over here and now we suffer.
There is very little you can do on an individual level to mitigate death and almost nothing that can be done on a macro level to mitigate death without putting the country back 50 years.
The best you can do is protect you and yours and try your best to alleviate suffering of those around you.
