How the hell do you get rid of this? I'm assuming asymptomatic employees/xray tech/lab tech brought it in which is why a rapid test for facilities like this (or any medical facility) would be a God send -- get there 15 min before your shift and get tested. EVERY DAY until this subsides.

I was in the "don't overwhelm the medical system" crowd. OK I can stay in for a couple of weeks. Then I was in the "let me out .. let it run it's course .. you can't outrun a virus .. the system isn't overwhelmed". And now idk where the f I stand
the hope was that we could isolated enough so that there could be a treatment developed for these most at risk people. that seems to be happening rapidly. i just hope we can get that out to the residents asap.

And even though the FDA deserves historical hate for their approval timelines, this rush to get kits out without FDA oversight is going to lead to many unreliable tests. Typical antibody false-positive and false-negative rates are 1% or less. I don't know the rates of these tests, but I'm certain they wont meet that standard.
And I agree with others in the thread, take care of you and yours and keep loving and helping your patients. I know its hard to see, especially with people dying around you, but we're winning vs this virus now.

Yeah I'm talking about that rapid test that the WH task force was touting. I'm working at home and keeping up via EMR -- it's breaking my heart for our staff and the residents/their families and it's breaking my heart to not be able to interact with any of the residents. Our staff have now started testing positive as well.

Sorry, that was the point I was trying to make. The rush to have serology antibody screening in order to determine who has the disease is faulty logic. But a lot of people are proposing using that approach. (not saying tiger91 was saying that. just that i've seen quite a few people saying that).

Yeah I just think for the here and now medical places need the rapid result test -- if you're positive go home, if not go to work. Maybe it would help to stop bringing this crap in.

He is. His wife had a brief bout with the Rona. Also fully recovered. Their friend is still being weaned off a vent, now has a trach, but his kidneys and lungs are regaining function. So still a lot of hope.

The number of new cases rose to 23K today from yesterday's 19.6K. Deaths were 1,308 today vs yesterdays 934. I suspect the majority of this is reporting lag from the weekend. Typically Tuesday is when we see the real spike in deaths.
The observed mortality rate is up to 4.36% and climbing. When NY is included in the numbers, the mortality rate is at 5.36%.
Total testing (including NY) was at 137K today, down 30K from yesterday's 167K. It's also a reappearance of the 137K number.
The cumulative % positive rate is at 15.6%, with NY included this becomes 19.3%.
NY's positive rate over the last 7 days has been 33.75% vs the rest of the US at a 7 day average 15.53%.
