re: Do two 10% beers have the same effect as four 5% beers? - Ingloriousbastard
There is the same amount of alcohol in both. If you drink the 10% quicker than the 5%, then you would feel more effects because your body hasn’t had as much of a chance to eliminate the alcohol. ...

re: Why are 911 dispatch people such jerks? - Ingloriousbastard
Well yeah, but I think that’s the point. They know people aren’t in their right minds, so they are saying this to remind people to speak coherently. ...

...I’ve had good and bad experiences with many perceived races/genders on the phone. This thread is weird. The operators want you to calm down so that they can get information. ...

re: Anyone else’s 401k being rocked? - Ingloriousbastard
Nope. Only yours. Everyone else is up 10% on the year. Forget about your 401K, as long as you’re properly diversified, unless you’re getting close to retirement. Again, you should be properly diversified so even then you shouldn’t care that much. ...

re: Stocks hammered again at end of day. Down 535 today. - Ingloriousbastard
The S&P 500 is down roughly 5% from a recent high. That isn’t correction territory. ...

re: What's with the market sell off? - Ingloriousbastard
The economy is solid. The fear is that rising interest rates will harm some businesses because they have to pay more to borrow. There is also fear in stocks because less risky investments are now getting good returns, making the risk not worth as much (hence lower prices). I wouldn't worry too much ...

re: How much bloodletting is still left in this market correction? - Ingloriousbastard
Fair enough. I would’ve recommended keeping a bit more of that chunk in savings accounts. If you will ultimately buy in 2020 then I wouldn’t worry much. Those ETFs are going to go up and down a dozen more times between now and then. ...

re: Is the Federal Reseve behind the massive crash of the stock market today? - Ingloriousbastard
This. The S&P 500 dropped roughly 10% in late January-February over the course of 2 weeks, but rebounded from that low and is now up 11.5% from then (even with today’s “massive crash”), and is up roughly 6.9% YTD all things considered. People need to chill, but of course they won’t. ...

401K Asset Based Fee - Ingloriousbastard
Is 1.02% annually normal? It seems terribly high to me, but I haven’t looked at a ton of 401K plans. Average expense ratios are fairly low .10-.60% or so. ...

re: Credit card processing fee - Ingloriousbastard
Yeah, except credit card companies are not monopolies in any sense of the word. There is cash available, there is PayPal, there is MasterCard, VISA, Discover, and Amex, Bitcoin, etc. The issue here is that customers prefer a certain way to pay, but the OP doesn’t want to pay the fee (which is unders...

re: Credit card processing fee - Ingloriousbastard
I’d consider this to be a cost of doing business. Amend your pricing or cut costs some other way accordingly. If someone is “insisting” that he pay with Amex and you say no (or try to add a fee) then there is a 99% chance you will rub him the wrong way. Hence, giving him reasons to look elsewhere wh...
