I'm poor as shite. I'm not buying anything. I'm just laughing at people who think its going to replace fiat currency. If anything, governments will take it over, one way or another. The dream of it being some universal avenue to unregulated currency is hilariously naive.

The people speaking against BTC the most on here know the least. Study a little before putting something down you know absolutely nothing about. You do yourself a great disservice.

Huh? Not sure why you're mad, I own and have traded crypto. It's just not a great currency vehicle outside that use case. Was just providing an example of how that volatility you mentioned fricked people over before when they spend it.

The perception of tangible currency is deeply ingrained in our psyche back to the times when we traded rocks and beads.

If you mean something you can hold in your hand, we are entering a fully digital world where we have to have some version of digital money.

How can we make buying an Icee at your local convenient store with Bitcoin easy?

There are financial products that act as a credit or debit card, let you secure the loan with cross collateralized crypto coins, switch between debit and credit as desired, and as credit, avoid the tax recognition event

Of course, that puts a middleman back in the transaction and puts some of your crypto back in the mainstream Also, you may want the transaction (including fees) yo be in dollars bc very few can “think in crypto”

Unless the seller prices in crypto and accepts payment to their wallet, I’m not sure of a way to get there without using extant financial networks

ETA: I have started to see crypto ATMs at most convenient stores also

Nah, just have to change the algorithms to quantum resistant ones. These algorithms already exist and have been NIST approved.

Crypto definitely has its place, as an immutable ledger. Just not as a currency

For real estate, securities, luxury items etc it has a lot of value. Best way to prove an item isn’t counterfeit? Check it on the blockchain. I forget the name but there was a company that started making sneakers and some apparel where each piece could be verified

BTC isn’t built for daily spending, it’s basically digital gold at this point. The fees and speed kill the “buy an Icee” use case. If you want actual utility, you look at other chains or just accept that stablecoins are doing the job already.

For me it’s just something I hold a bit of, then mess around on the side with mining stuff like hashmole because it keeps me involved without pretending I’ll ever use it at a petrol station. The hype about buying coffee with bitcoin has been around for a decade, still hasn’t happened.

One word: Solana

Solana has the best technology and is by far the cheapest and fastest to transact.

Bitcoin is slow and expensive. Etherium was supposed to fix all that but Solana did it better.

It'll never be able to transact fast enough as is. It's great compared to bank processes that take days. It's snails pace when you compare to a debit card.

It also fluctuates in value wildly so using for actual purchases is difficult.

Imagine having criticisms about the Fed and its printing press, then trusting something even more digital and intangible. Gold bugs always made sense to me. Crypto bros did not.

Yes, Bitcoin is backed by nothing exactly like Fiat.

"They" (crypo proponents) say that XRP is the solution. Apparently its easier to mine (if that's the correct term) and the gas fees are very cheap.

But the problem with XRP is that Ripple continues to "print" more so it has the same inflationary problem as the U.S. dollar.

All of the XRP that will ever exist already exist, there is no "printing" and Ripple does not control the XRP ledger, but they do control a large amount of XRP, most of which is locked in escrow. A set amount unlocks at the beginning of each month, and Ripple uses some for various purposes (to sell, financing projects that use the XRP ledger etc.) and relock the rest.

Transactions are so cheap they are practically free. Even with the low fee as a cumulative effect they make XRP deflationary in the long term.

The cheap nature and transaction time of a few seconds are what make it so desirable for transmitting value. There are also features to the ledger that will allow more tokenization and KYC which will be vital to being integrated into the legacy finance system.

People confuse Bitcoin and crypto. XRP, Solana and others will move the space farther than Bitcoin alone.
