Family would be difficult, friends no because eventually they’ll reveal themselves to not actually be your “friend”

You are correct. It’s highly dependent on behavior. Just about all relationships are conditional. Most people have some kind of a line in the sand. Blatant disrespect is usually not tolerated.

I already did. I cannot be around those people because they all have mental issues and they are just not pleasant people to be around. They are ALL socially awkward... they do not know how to have fun or participate in a normal conversation about anything outside of politics because they are glued to their phones and they all just suck as human beings. I have nothing in common with any of them and I am very thankful that nobody in my family has ever supported Democrats (with the exception of a few that supported Obama back then when it was the popular and cool thing to do - which I will give them a pass. I still call them stupid for jumping on that fake arse bandwagon but we all laugh about it)

Define "cut off".

If you mean to completely disassociated and decouple from them in every imaginable way and to forego communication and niceities because they've been in a perpetual conservative-bashing meltdown on social media and bashing even their own conservative family members since Trump's reelection?

Yeah. I've already done that. I'm too old to care but still young enough that I want the second half of my life (GOD willing) to be pleasant. I have adopted stoicism and I excise toxicity from my life with extreme prejudice and no remorse whatsoever.

You're liberal? Cool. That's your right. But don't sit there tapping away on your phone screen about how I'm going to Hell because of how I voted. Don't tell me to my face that I'm supporting Nazis and it makes me a Nazi too. I don't give a shite what your political beliefs are and I don't shove mine in your face, so I expect the same courteous reciprocity. If you're unable to just have a normal conversation without feeling compelled to make things political and combative without provocation, I have no room for your shite in my life.

My brother in law is a liberal puss who refuses to attend Holiday functions unless everyone agrees no
Politics.

I could personally do without him

CSB, I was very active on a music message board in the first decade of the 2000’s. When the site was shut down by the magazine, most of us friended each other on Facebook. I would guess it was around 25 people, total, from all over the country. During Cavanaugh’s SCOTUS confirmation, I posted something on Facebook about how silly the Dems attacks and accusations against him were.

All but 3 of those people had unfriended me within a couple of days. People who I’d had friendly banter with about music for over a decade, one political comment…bam.

I wouldn't cut people off unless they were trying to influence my kids even after I asked, then told, then gave final ultimatum on that. And i don't mean in an open forum really. I mean, behind my back. That would be probably not be a three strikes situation now that i think about it. One warning then cut off from my kids.

One thing I've noticed....

Conservatives tend to gravitate away from libs bc they don't need anything from them.

Libs, on the other hand, are leeches and almost always seem to need something from the conservative friend/family member so they'll stick around until they get cut off or have an emotional breakdown.

Sad how that happens but you see it often.

No. I have respectful discussions with them. I turned a communist nephew into a moderate. I also have respectful conversations with a Rino relative (Trump is mean...GW Bush was a REAL president). However, I'm not sure these discussions would be possible with female relatives. Logic is like a foreign language to women.

Yeah, actual sibling. Thought george was a great guy. I couldn't take hearing that shite, so I told him to leave and not come back.

I watched one very passive quiet kind sister absolutely rip my liberal minded sister to shreds over politics. She was telling my nephew one of her views on politics and wouldn’t let it go. He never asked her opinion. She just kept telling him why he was wrong and her opinion was correct. This was at a major holiday gathering. All of us were stunned when this happened. Even my liberal sister was shocked at how my normally reserved sister responded. She had enough. I told the kind sister after that my obnoxious sister had it coming.

To be honest, I don't have any leftist friends/family to begin with, and none come to mind whose absence would make a big impact.

The few I can think of are pretty lukewarm Democrats who like to banter and don't get their feelings hurt.

Of course. Blood relation means absolutely nothing to me. If someone is a shitlib, I have zero issues cutting them off.
