I believe most people really don't care about the color of skin but more that they can relate to that person and their values. Ben Carson and Herman Cain both had conservative policies but both had drawbacks. Cain had an affair allegation which derailed him and Carson was just amazingly low energy.
The problem is finding minorities that have conservative views. Condi Rice would do amazingly well if she ran.

A black 'real' Republican with a clean personal history would beat the brakes off of JBE in the next election.

Has Louisiana had 5 republican governors total?
Posted on 1/15/18 at 4:59 pm to volod
Absolutely could win. Very few people give a flying frick what color your skin is. It’s probably less than 1% of the population.
unless your a sis white male running in liberal northwest. Then you’re in trouble.

At this moment in time, no, because he or she would never be able to win the Republican nomination. Ben Carson (lol) may have been the "hot candidate" at some point in the lead up to the Republican primaries, but he never really stood a chance.
If a black candidate somehow magically won the nomination so that the choice was between voting for a black person and voting for a democrat, then maybe, but even a moderately popular democrat, regardless of race, would easily win all swing states and have a damn good chance of winning several red states including Louisiana.

We actually elected an indian in Bobby Jindal with crushing landslides twice.
Sadly, it took Blanco's Katrina performance to convince a decent portion of the electorate. It would have been good to see how things turned out, had he gotten in on that try against her - for both him and the state.

2. He has the same personality and qualifications as Donald Trump. This includes Trumps rhetoric and media battles.
A black Reagan could win the presidency, but no way could a black Trump win. Plus, given the fact that the GOP has moved to the right since the George W Bush years I doubt any black dude could do better than Herman Cain or Ben Carson. That is the ceiling for black dudes in the GOP these days and in the foreseeable future.

Blanco actually did everything she could to get the folks in North Louisiana scared of the dot indian making it into the big house to the point where she was stoking racist crap against Jindal.

I don't know. I think a bulk Jindal's excellent skills at disaster management came from the lessons he and the state learned from Blanco's incompetence and the entire Katrina disaster.
But he's a smart guy and probably would've handled it all the same like he handled Gustav which was brilliant.

They've moved towards populism. They didn't move right.

On gay marriage? Nope.
On immigration? Nope.
On national defense? Nope.
What are examples of the GOP moving further right?

It's amazing, and a little scary that people actually believe this.

A lot of republicans won’t vote for a black candidate for president under any circumstances. It would have to be an unbelievably charismatic candidate.
Not true. They elected Jindal twice. And if you say he isn't black, that holds no water with me because racist whites don't like Indians any better. What does that tell you? It tells me that racism is not an issue in the Republican Party. It is an issue in Democrat minds.

Yes a black conservative would win in Louisiana

You've had the most interesting character development of any poster on the 2017-2018 season of As The PT Turns. To go from semimilitant black liberal to libertarian leaning conservative is an impressive transition, especially in (current year).

Yes on both counts.
I don't vote based on a person's color, sex or religion. Policies and are what matter to me.

Dude, an Indian republican named Piyoush was a 2 term governor. I think a competent, qualified black republican would do just fine. Guillory would be a great pick.
