I've been pondering this for awhile. Given the current political climate, would my ideal candidate be able to win a state like Louisiana.

Lets assume this is a black male with qualifications similar to the top 5 best GOP governors LA has had in the past 30 years.

As for the Presidency, there are 2 very different paths.
He is going to be the GOP frontrunner so
1. He has the same political beliefs and qualifications as Reagan.
2. He has the same personality and qualifications as Donald Trump. This includes Trumps rhetoric and media battles.

I don't know about Louisiana, but it's a certainty a black Republican could win the Presidency

There are a few problems

He won't have the minority support that Clinton or Obama would get.

He still has to win a portion of the Rust Belt.

Would like to see the reaction of Dems if a black female President were elected.

Yes. I believe that is possible.

In Louisiana any black candidate is going to start off with 38% of the vote. That candidate just has to find an additional 12% +1 of the non-black vote to win. I think that is very doable with a charismatic candidate.

Louisiana easily.

The national media, not racism, would be the major obstacle at the national level. Only Democrats are black at that level.

Before he got hoodwinked by Tenet, Colin Powell would've won LA.

Easy, the problem is the lack of potential candidates.

Not many anyway.

A lot of republicans won’t vote for a black candidate for president under any circumstances. It would have to be an unbelievably charismatic candidate.

Potentially a problem, but I wasn't sure a Republican would ever win the Rust Belt again. If said Black Republican has the right message, I think they could win the Rust Belt.

We actually elected an indian in Bobby Jindal with crushing landslides twice. South Carolina has a black senator.

A black republican is no problem at all.

I seriously doubt that. There aren't that many people that are "racists."

You really are stupid and seem to be projecting your racism on to others.

A black Republican in the mold of Reagan would win Louisiana in a landslide. A black Republican in the mold of Trump would win Louisiana in landslide. On the national level a black Republican in the same mold as those two could win provided they can win the battleground states or do like Trump did and force long time blue states to turn into battleground states like the Rust belt.
