So Barr's own DoJ just destroy's Barr's view that you can't charge someone with Obstruction if you don't charge an underlying crime:

LINK

quote:

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – A Virginia man who previously served as a linguist for the FBI was arrested Saturday night on charges of obstructing a federal investigation and making multiple false statements to FBI officials.

According to court documents, Abdirizak Jaji Raghe Wehelie, aka Haji Raghe, 66, of Burke, was a federal contractor for the FBI and worked as a linguist translating communications captured by court-authorized surveillance of a suspect (Person A) in a terrorism investigation. Wehelie allegedly intentionally misidentified his own voice that was captured when Person A left a voicemail message on Wehelie’s mobile telephone. When questioned by FBI investigators about this particular incident, Wehelie made several misleading and/or false statements.

Wehelie is scheduled to make his initial appearance in federal court in Alexandria today at 10:00 a.m.

Wehelie is charged with making false statements to government officials and obstruction of a federal investigation.

Person A, according to prosecutors, was suspected of "having conspired with and aided and abetted" someone who traveled to Somalia to join Al Shabaab, an al Qaeda-affiliated terror group. The latter person was on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorists List, according to the indictment.

When interviewed in 2016, Wehelie told FBI agents he was "surprised" that the person was a surveillance target, but he admitted in the interview he was aware of an FBI search of the person's home weeks prior to the voicemail.
Uuummmmm.... kind of sounds like there was an underlying crime

Making false statements to the FBI is an underlying crime and in and of itself is the basis for an obstruction charge - you stupid f*ck.

That isn't Barr's view at all. He acknowledged that an underlying crime isn't required. He just said it makes it awfully hard to prove intent....which it does. It's a factor to be considered among others. Your first sentence is absolutely false....and typical of how dems spew falsehoods as facts (i.e. Barr lied to Congress.)

Sounds like, and charged with are two different things.

What is the underlying crime that Haji Raghe is CHARGED with? That's the predicate for Barr's rationale for not prosecuting Trump for Obstruction. Can't you just admit that it's inconsistent prosecution?

So you just proved why Trump committed obstruction... Here's why.

Flynn made false statements. Trump obstructed the investigation into Flynn's false statements.

His son/sons left for ME to join terrorist group. He then lied about his communication with them and his knowledge of their location.

Sounds like obstruction to me.

You don't see any problems here? Or any underlying crimes?

This guy is charged with an underlying crime - making false statements to investigators.

Barr also said there “could be” underlying obstruction charges on a standalone basis but the bar for such charges is not just because you don’t like the subject of the investigation.

Correct. So how is ordering the top investigator into Flynn (who lied to the FBI), to "let it go", not Obstruction?

Trump is named as an unindicted co-conspirator in a federal election crime. There's one underlying crime for you.
