re: Comey indictment misquotes Comey. Bad form for a prosecution involving what was said.

I feel bad for Halligan. Yes, she is an attorney - but the people around her clearly used her.

She had no experience in criminal law at all.
She was made U.S. attorney for apparently one reason only, to get an indictment of Comey.
In order to do so she had to act very quickly due to the SOL
And apparently, she got little to no help, she was the only prosecutor presenting the Grand Jury.
if you wanted to set up someone to fail spectacularly this is exactly how you do it.

WTF?

Like I said earlier ITT, it makes the DOJ and the legal arm of the President look like buffoons, in addition to the historic tomfoolery following J6.

It's going to create legitimate calls for investigation into EVERY thing they do, now. It's that colossal of a frickup.

I don’t. She’s a grown arse woman who went into this eyes wide open about what was expected of her. She deserves all the ramifications of it, especially if she was dishonest in trying to please her masters with the preordained outcome.

She also had full access to the memo explaining why this was a bad idea.

Is it possible she is so dumb/inexperienced she didn't know this was a no-no?

I don't feel bad for her at all.

Career prosecutors were clear that there was no case.. They were clear that they did not think it was possible to secure an indictment, let alone a conviction at trial. The guy she replaced is a respected Republican, he was fired because he said there was no case.

She knew exactly what she was getting in to.

As a lawyer, you’re charged with being competent in the areas in which you’re practicing. The fact that this is explicitly mentioned in the DOJ manual does not bode well for her.

I agree. I am not arguing she should not face consequences. She is responsible for her own actions.

I just feel like the people around her set her up to fail and that is where I have some sympathy for her.

I do not think I am brainwashed into thinking Trump can do no wrong, but he is a businessman, and a business people have, in general, a certain view of lawyers as serving their interests and as also being too cautious/negative. But he should know by now that the DOJ is not there for his bidding in the way his private team of lawyers are there for the Trump Organization's bidding.

Bondi has not doubt seen how Trump has handled his previous AGs, but she has got to either take a stand on something like appointing a totally inexperienced lawyer like Halligan as a freaking U.S. Attorney, or if not willing to do that then provide her with far more support than what she got.

Trump's lawyers are horrible, horrible, horrible. It is amazing how bad they are. And it is a shame.

It is REMARKABLE how bad they have been since 2016, all things considered.

That may depend on which actions we are examining

- I wouldn’t fault her for unknowingly tilting at windmills. If no one ever goes against lost causes, the law becomes statist
- I wouldn’t fault her for procedural errors. The MPRE might say she violated a duty, but I’d be more forgiving if that was a charge on an ethics violation

- She wasn’t a jerk about it. She knew her limitations and did not dogmatically try to sell her experience or her theories. She confined her actions to the tribunals
- They overstep would potentiallybe intentionally misrepresenting the result of prior proceedings to a tribunal. If founded, that is something that could be subject to censure

I think people should start to realize that Trump is mostly checked out. He’s an old, rich lame duck president. Some very incompetent people have his ear this time around and he’s just rolling with what they tell him to do.

Did he even pay the good lawyers?

They left the building already, and are busy doing podcasts or getting book deals.

So now he’s got the C team bench players playing significant minutes.

I doubt their media is even covering this yet, once there's an Eric Daugherty tweet about the situation I'm sure you'll see the new threads start popping up

Eric Daugherty:

"BREAKING: Judge refuses to dismiss Comey indictment. It's an Obama judge, so you know the case against Comey must be air tight!"
