Uhm, no you don't. You have the Righteous Cause Myth that Robert Penn Warren called the 'treasury of virtue' over 70 years ago.

fire up support to voluntarily go fight in a brutal and bloody war (especially with how wars were fought back then)? no, not so much

History is full of people doing exactly that.

Just look at the idiots filling the ranks of Antifa and BLM just as one example. I agree with you completely.

This is nonsense for multiple reasons. The most obvious being that slavery still exists. The Civil War didn't end it.

Specifically as it relates to the United States, slavery would have ended during industrialization anyway. Once machines become cheaper than "free labor," slavery ends.

Latin America ended slavery for economic reasons. It was cheaper to hire free labor when needed for harvests and such than it was to support slaves all year.

Free labor would put up a barn in a few days where slave labor would take weeks.

Wrong. The South lost because they didn't have industry, manpower, and railroads.

It all could have been sorted out without a long bloody war, if a couple pimple-faced Citadel cadets hadn't taken pot shots at a US navy ship in Charleston harbor.

Fun fact:

The first colony to legalize slavery was Massachusetts.

Oh, they were convincing alright. Newton Knight found that out all too well.

It's both. I think of the state rights, Slavery was the biggest. And the southern states had to push the slavery narrative. The people who would need to fund the succession, and ultimately the war, was the richer slave owners. You had to do whatever it took to get them fired up and willing to pay for the cause.

Most Historians think Slavery would have died out naturally regardless of the war. There were already talks about the inhumanely treatment and such rumbles forming in the southern states.
