This 40M was probably part of the original 200B fraud that DOGE uncovered, which Congress later proclaimed “nah, it’s good”

Jesus, if you are stealing gold bars don’t stash them in your house?! How can supposedly smart people suck so much at crime and dumbass mafia bosses get away with it?

How the hell does this happen with a position with top secret clearance?
It isn’t that hard to have a top security clearance if you have a military background for instance …

Couldn't he have gotten Francois in Zurich to move these things before some busy body FBI types started getting interested. He could be enjoying the good life right now in Bali.

Yeah, you don't sit on them, if you are a CIA type you'd think they would know some sort of compromised broker who could move the stuff.....but then again, maybe he did approach a compromised type and that dude burned him.

If he had been caught with $20 million you’d have said the same about $10 million.

My point being is that at some point you would think enough was plenty and quit before getting caught.

Sorry you missed it.

Remember the guy in Tennessee (I think) that had done a lot of research and finally figured out where some buried gold was? And for some reason he had to get gov permission to dig. Then "the gov" ran him off and dug up what was there, and left. Maybe this is the guy in charge of stealing it.

He had to do a bit more than fill out fraudulent timesheets to get those gold bars.
Indeed. But thankfully, he is just a lone wolf, and no one else in our 3 letter agencies would ever do such a thing.

The spooks would be terrible at their jobs if they were easily-identifiable, save a few dozen folks at the top in public-facing positions.

Usually, you don't find out that someone was CIA until after they "leave" and take a more sunlight-adjacent role.

Food for thought about the Agency:

Correct me if I am wrong, but Obama was POTUS in 2009.
