If he truly had $40M in illicit gold bars, why draw attention to himself by filing fraudulent time sheets?

$20 million...try just $1-5 million and if you get away with it you got lucky....or maybe this situation just tells us how bad it really is.

Typical NYT headline, did you read about this guy....

He lied about his education, he lied about being able to fly a plane, etc etc. Nice vetting for a top security clearance.

He not only had 40 million in gold, but 2 million in cash, 35 rolexes.

He said he had taken them for.....get this..."business expenses". WTF.

$40 million stashed in his Virginia residence,
I bet some of his family members knew some things. Time to use that as leverage to get some answers on a lot of things...

Then, look the other way while someone leverages the rest of the story out of him.

Interesting times when news reporters classify $40M in Gold Bars sitting in a house as "a SMALL fortune."

My thoughts as well. That is a pretty good fortune that would last me a loooooong time.

Do we just leave million dollar bars laying around? Many heads should roll.

Sitting here tabulating finances to find out how to squeeze out the next mortgage payment, reading about how yet another government employee has defrauded me.

What a hell of a timeline in which to exist.

To say the guillotine should be dusted off and re-implemented isn't hyperbolic.

It's infuriating to know the trillions of dollars the US taxpayer has been defrauded/ripped off for. Pisses me off big time every year as I'm paying thousands of dollars in fricking taxes.

These aren't the gold bars you're looking for.

Nothing to see here.

Move along.

Someone really whiffed on his background check

quote:

Barack Obama’s administration (hired around 2008–2009). LINK The arrested senior CIA official is David Rush, a longtime manager with top-secret clearance. He held the position for nearly two decades (roughly since ~2006–2009) before recent events. Court documents and reports note he applied to the government multiple times and was hired on his third attempt, with falsified credentials (e.g., claiming a Clemson University degree from 2000, a graduate degree elsewhere, and a nonexistent U.S. Navy test pilot career). LINK • Multiple recent discussions of the case (including on X) specify he was hired in 2008 (or 2009) during the Obama administration.

• This aligns with his ~20-year tenure ending in 2025–2026. The recent internal CIA probe and FBI referral came under current CIA Director John Ratcliffe (in the second Trump administration), but that concerns his later misconduct and arrest—not his original hiring. LINK The case involves allegations of theft (fraudulent time sheets, unaccounted gold/cash requests for supposed ops) and background fraud, uncovered via a CIA internal review. Rush is not a political appointee but a career/senior executive service employee whose hiring predates recent administrations.
