You can defend yourself from getting your arse beat, just not with lethal force. You have to have reasonable belief that your life is in danger to use lethal force(there are other circumstances that aren’t germane). Also, if you instigate a confrontation then you give up your right to claim self defense.
In the case of this douche he may be able to claim self defense if the other person continued to beat his arse while on the ground. But as to what I was saying, punching someone once in the mouth, that’s not justification for a shooting

Parts of this thread are annoying to me though as they seem to conflate an a-hole loud mouth with actual physical violence and destruction of property.

I think if the playing field was level - we talked about racial stuff truthfully, prosecutors didn't enforce selectively, our government cared about protecting regular people from sacred cow protected classes - then we could largely all come together and say he deserved to get punched for being a dick and a public menace.
But it's not, so there is a natural inclination not to be "gracious" on that account because we know it won't ever be returned to normal, decent people. Just another sign of the broken social contract.

I don’t think it’s quite that complicated. I think he just wants to film himself saying things to people that society says are verboten. He’s a provocateur in a world where cancel culture has been made obsolete.
What struck me as funny about his videos is most of the black people I saw were very calm and seemed mostly bewildered at what he was even saying, which completely contradicted his repeated invitation to “not chimp out”.

Generally self defense must be proportional, but there is also an exception that you can't claim self defense if you instigate or escalate the encounter.
It's possible this Chud guy can claim self defense or it's possible he is going to jail for a long time. Seems impossible to tell with the current amount of info.
