Yes, people don't speak enough about the Muslims and slavery.

Funny how it's "our views" that have evolved

Hitchens would be maga by today’s standards.
Would have been cancelled awhile ago.
Maybe even shot while touring college campuses.

How do some of these idiots remember to breathe?

He'd be banned or in jail in most of Western Europe.

Eh, plenty of evidence to say it existed before America existed

I thought he was a libertarian. Am I mixing up my gay libertarians?

I still read YouTube comments about the evil US and slavery. A search of the countries that transported the most African slaves to try US is interesting from top to bottom:
Portugal/Brazil, nearly six million
Britain, nearly three and a half million
France, 1.3 million
Spain/Uruguay, over one million
Netherlands, half a million
USA, 300.000
Denmark, 111,000
I know this is off topic but it will make you resent uppity Europeans who still drag that tired story of slavery out for us.

There is a great YouTuber named Fat Electrician. He does American History episodes
On the Barbary Pirates he said the world learned a lesson that will come up often, "You don't mess with American boats"
It will always end badly for you

Hitchens was no Liberal, he was an anti-Royalist Libertarian Intellectual bordering on Classical Conservatism.

Probably more of a libertarian socialist. . .until 9/11
Then he became a full-on "save western civ" guy

No he wasn't go online and find his Firing Line appearances from the 1980's

He was a socialist insomuch as it was en vogue among academia in 1968 as it represented the opposition to Vietnam, etc . I don’t think he ever cared that much about economic theory and certainly never advocated any Marxist Leninism into adulthood. His socialist icons were Rosa Luxembourg and George Orwell, the latter of whom was not a Marxist at all, and unfortunately Leon Trotsky. His admiration for Trotsky, while misguided, was entirely based on him being some grand historical figure who opposed both Stalin and Hitler.
Hitch crossed the Rubicon officially after 9/11 but he was pretty much a neoliberal by the 1980s (per OchoDedos comment). He was an American citizen and recognized that life was good under capitalism. His only foray into socialism by this point was anti-militaristic foreign policy but even then it wasn’t couched in socialist terms.

LOL Islam was built on conquest and slavery. All of North Africa was Christian until Mohammed's legions invaded and put the people to the sword.
The ONLY majority Muslim area on Earth that wasn't made that way by conquest were the places like Malaysia, where Islamic armies couldn't go, and the religion was spread by trade.

These part of our history is one of my favorite. I’ve read a couple books on it, but this guy’s channel is a pretty fun way to learn some history.

We don't speak enough about how our ancestors fought islam for over a milenia. The Christian West and Islam are natural enemies, yet we are bringing them in in droves naively.
Pure anti-American evil.
