I'm not sure what surprised me more: The fact that the Chinese govt did this to the largest Christian church in their country, or the fact that the New York Times covered the story.

The article says they view Christianity as a Western philosophy, which I suppose it is in the sense that Christianity and Western Civilization are almost synonymous for much of the past 2,000 years.

I think this has more to do with Chinese totalitarianism than their "communism".
