Maybe, maybe not. The PLAN is largely a coastal navy. It's meant for the South China Sea and East China Sea. While they technically have more ships than we do, we have a 4:1 advantage in combat tonnage. Plus, they're bottled up by the First Island Chain. Any gaps that we have in land-based air power can be made up with carriers and China lacks the blue water capability to challenge us in that regard. We could close Malacca from the Indian Ocean side and China lacks the range to do a damn thing about it.
