Trump’s numbers are correct

and they are no longer correct. the rate they pay on imported autos, except for from us, is now 15%.

and that's exactly what they would be today if they weren't retaliating on us

you fail, again

That's 10% lower that it was. It was previously at 25% and raised in response. Because they can not sustain, they are moving it lower..... than the starting point.

I didn't know this until recently, but General Motors exports fully loaded Duramax-powered Silverados to China from Michigan.

It's a niche luxury item and costs the equivalent of $150K there.

Moving down from 25% to 15% is a 40% reduction in the tariff rate.

Yep. And that was something they did unilaterally. Just like they had been doing in several import categories, unilaterally, for years.

Surprised that more people didn't pick up on that.

Sweet Jesus.

It was at 25% . The link proves that and in the link is a link to the trade agreement.

Are seriously saying it was not at 25%?

Seriously....

Nope.

Either it was at 25% when Trump went after them or not. That answer is yes it was!

Actually, it was 25% then Beijing lowered it to 15% then Trump pushed for 0% and Beijing increased it to 40%. China now is going to the WTO to push for a 0% tariff on Automobiles which is something European and Indian countries may balk at. There is a long term objective which China appears willing to push to keep the US on its side.

they announced their unilateral decision to reduce to 15% after the article you posted, and prior to their retaliation to us. that's what the tariff rate on vehicles from the us would be if not for retaliation to trump's tariffs, full stop

Fake news jjbot. It was only a rumor this morning. Just Trump manipulating a bad market. Worked until about 11qm.

I'm not sure how pointing out that ending a sentence with full stop supports the OP though

OP: spouts typical trumpkin bullshite, gets dunked on

road: omg this guy used a phrase that i don't hear often, i'm gonna swing thru and give a mild insult in no way related to anything

responses ranging from this kind of pawing to outright insults are common from posters who don't like what i'm saying, but can't take it on

You really have to be kidding....last I heard, 40% (present abusive number) - 15% (even if it was at former levels) = 25% So you are saying that 25% or 1/4 is not putting immediate money back into business? As they say, It's a start...and a dang good one. I predict it goes lower still.

The vast majority of US auto makers have a JV in China that produces their vehicles in China. No import tariff on those vehicles. Most US vehicles are not imported into China. The devil is in the details.
