Throughout the extended Fourth of July weekend, at least 23 people were shot, with five killed, in shootings across Chicago. This preliminary data spans from Thursday, July 2, through 5 a.m. Monday, July 6

During the long 4th of July holiday weekend (July 3–5, 2026), at least 97 people were shot across the United States, resulting in at least 12 deaths.

I don't remember all of the predictions or the over and under.. I think I was way over at around 38-40

So one city was responsible for over 25% of gun violence. Why are the guns so explosive in that city?

Final tally ...and it's actually pretty low for Chicago.

As of 5 p.m. on Sunday, 26 people had been shot, two killed, and three others had been stabbed, according to preliminary reports by the Chicago Police Department.

CPD usually tallies up holiday weekend shootings starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday nights through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday nights.

23 of 97 in Chicago is crazy. Literally one in four shootings that happened nationwide over the weekend, happened in one city.

26

...and that's probably also inaccurate. It's probably much MUCH higher.

They are doing better. A year ago it was 6:1 shooting/fatal. A month ago is was a bit worse than 5.1. Now it's nearing 4:1.

It rained for 2 of the Chicago days which always reduces shootings.

I said 40 people shot. Can't believe it wasn't higher than 23.

Some hood rat pulled into the empty lot across street from my house at 2 am Sunday morning (nice neighborhood in BR) and just sat in his car listening to his audio system on full blast. My windows were rattling and it woke me up. Pissed, I walked over and told him to GTFO. Showed my wife and kids the video I took of me confronting him and they were appalled, saying I was going to get shot. I may get shot at, but I’m not too worried about them hitting me. Hard to do holding a pistol sideways and making poking motions while you shoot.

For some reason, I’m picturing a plastered Leo DiCaprio bitching out the Manson Family in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood after reading that.

There seems to be an outlier.
