Student Protests Expand to More Than 40 French Cities

Union members, parents and teachers joined the demonstrations, broadening the student-led protest movement that has closed hundreds of French high schools since late September.

quote:

Demonstrations swept across France on Tuesday as labor unions rallied in solidarity with high school students who have spent two weeks blockading schools to protest understaffing, overcrowded classrooms and dilapidated buildings.

Marches were held in more than 40 cities, from Caen in the north to Marseille in the south, as activists, teachers, parents and university students joined swelling protests that had spread to hundreds of schools across the country. Tuesday’s marches drew roughly 256,000 people, according to the French Interior Ministry; a major union said the figure was more than twice that many.

quote:

Thousands of university students, parents, teachers and union members joined high school students in a massive demonstration in Paris today, protesting poor conditions in deteriorating schools. Some demonstrators carried signs expressing anger at police violence, at the government and at the main far-right party in France, the National Rally.

quote:

There were more than 40 protests in cities across the country on Tuesday, by our last count. Most were relatively peaceful, according to local French reporting, apart from places like Rennes, where a fire was lit and quickly extinguished, and protesters clashed with police.

The protest in Paris, which started this afternoon, has wound down. Some protesters stayed behind, and could be seen chanting before a line of riot police. Some are skirmishing cat and mouse style with the officers, who deployed tear gas.

And so on and so forth for days...

Imagine the headlines if white nationalists were attempting to set black students on fire at school.

The rhetoric would sound like it was kristalnacht all over again.

You can't hate them enough.

They need to be run out of business. The premiere news publication of record can't be trusted, thanks to internal, institutional rot generated by new-age liberals.

Then, a case study should be built, to inform the rest of the country... "The Gray Lady - went woke, got broke". Teach it in the schools as a lesson, w/ special emphasis on 'it can happen to you'.

Shellenberger is on it:

Media Spread False Claims About Causes Of French Riots And Dismiss Left-Islamist Alliance Behind Them
Right-wing populists who condemn the violence, not its instigators, remain targets of government censorship

quote:

A lack of school funding and a shortage of teachers are behind the protests and riots at French high schools, say the news media. “Complaints from students about deteriorating schools, teacher shortages and heavy class schedules have become the latest cause embraced by some presidential hopefuls,” wrote the AP. Students are protesting long school hours, overheated classrooms, dilapidated buildings and staff absences, reported Agence France-Presse (AFP). Le Monde editorialized that the government is to blame for not listening to the students. Of the French public surveyed, 62% said students were justified in their protests. Protests reached more than 1,000 of France’s 3,700 high schools, called lycées.

But French schools have more money per pupil today than at any earlier time. Primary school classes averaged close to 30 pupils in the 1960s, nursery classes close to 40, and public primary school classes will average 21 this year, the lowest on record. In 1970, 20% of a generation earned the baccalauréat, the lycée diploma, whereas nearly 80% earn it today. Spending per pupil has risen 1.6% a year in constant euros since 1980. The French government spends 4.5% of gross domestic product on educational institutions, and Germany spends 3.7%.

quote:

Many students appear to be protesting for the sake of protesting while others blame “the far right.” Le Point found that the teenagers it interviewed rarely knew the unions’ list of demands and offered random reasons including the public debt, “the far right,” a “disgusting” canteen, and the university admissions platform Parcoursup. “We burn because we have to be heard,” said a young man at a blockade in Toulouse. “We see a fire start, we throw things in, the fire grows.” Fire destroyed the main hall of lycée Nelson-Mandela in Nantes on October 1.

But the evidence clearly shows that La France insoumise (LFI), which means “France Unbowed,” the most powerful left-wing party in France, led by presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon, instigated and led the protests. A local LFI group promoted the protests on September 20, declaring that “this Monday, September 21, from 8 a.m., the movement continues.” LFI deputy Louis Boyard said on X on September 25, “The lycée movement must spread.” In 2023, he launched a contest that offered a tour of the National Assembly for the best photo of a blockaded school. “Parents, Insoumis [party] activists, mobilize to interpose yourselves against police savagery,” said Mélenchon, blaming the police, not the students, for the violence.

quote:

The French Left has waged war on schools while building an alliance with Islamist leaders who hope to radically transform them. For both, the fight starts with the schools. “Clearly, religious and politico-religious organizations ‘work on’ these pupils, sometimes from primary school, as well as their family, their social milieu and their neighborhood, and some try to set them against the school,” the Education Ministry inspectorate’s June 2004 report on religion in schools said. Rima Hassan, an LFI member of the European Parliament, relayed a call for a mass demonstration outside the Saint-Denis lycée to her 1.2 million Instagram followers.
