how the hell did Time magazine immortalize this guy, putting him on par with the likes of Mother Theresa and name him one of the most important figures of the 20th century when he literally claimed if the Soviets had left nuclear missiles in Cuba he would have attacked the U.S., specifically mentioning New York City as a primary target?

The American Fifth Column has been hard at work for a very long time.

The American Radical Left is "they". "They" have been around for a very long time. "They" were born here in the USA in the wake of the Russian Bolshevik Revolution. "They" formed a nucleus of an organization within the New York City Teachers Union back in the 1920s and 1930s. They expanded their influence into the mass media industry, at first, focusing on the Motion Picture industry.
It's been a steady and strong domestic political trend taking the USA further and further to the Left. Some developments have been good and positive. Most of them have been destructive and detrimental.
