Changes to history curriculum

If you were in charge of such things, what is one historical fact that you believe is overlooked or ignored that you feel is essential to be taught in public schools for US history? At what grade level should this fact first be taught?
My vote would be the truth about how the Federal Reserve was formed. It is higher level stuff, but it should be taught in High School US History.

Civics and how communicating with your political representative as if he or she is your biotch is highly effective. People get upset with the government employee which does the people no good whatsoever.
Always call the boss of their boss, the politician. Send certified letters also. If they perform, donate.

FDR’s public campaign to get people behind social security, including pastors, and the promises made about the program in order to sell it, compared to the current program.

I discovered a couple days ago that my 12 year old did not know the significance of 1492. And that he has only heard of Christopher Columbus. I learned about him in kindergarten.

You gotta be specific. That means "living Constitution" to most.
The Constitution was meant to restrict the government, not to "give" freedom to citizens.
