Carmouche law firm has filed 42 lawsuits for six parishes against 100 oil and gas companies. They have taken a very active role in fighting SB 359 which would effectively kill the lawsuits And allow the parishes themselves to deal directly with the oil companies.
How are these lawyers any different from the billboard boys?
This is nothing more than a money grab bag by trial lawyers under the guise of helping rebuild the state coast line.
Any comments?

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume the basis is that canals allowed saltwater intrusion into the wetlands.

Sounds like Louisiana folk doing Louisiana things. They have run off all the tourists, lets get rid of the oil and gas fellas as well.
By the way, what did you fellas do with all that big tobacco windfall you got?????

More money for the rulers to spend or steal.

They're not.
I just hope all these O & G companies are filing reconventional demands for all the royalties and taxes they have paid.

Who did they back for Governor?

They are sacks of shite, nothing but a colossal money grab that’s being endorsed by jbe. If they really cared about the environment and the people responsible for the extensive coastal erosion, they’d sue the feds for the Mississippi River levees that are largely the ones responsible. Would love for this to be thrown out and all the money they spent getting jbe elected and attempting to stack the state Supreme Court will have been wasted.

That’s not an option.
I suspect there are royalty agreements/contracts that included waivers of liability that the courts have (or will) say are unenforceable.
Since those would have been consideration for those contracts, striking them down means they are null, which means the people that have received payments under those contracts have been unjustly enriched.
I'd make the Louisiana Supreme Court (and then the SCOTUS) tell me that.

There's more to this than meets the eye. Pretty sure this is about the BP oil spill.
I think the state is fricking over those six parishes. This is their way of fighting back.

The fact that state and parish governments are filing suits against something they were all in bed with for 50+ years and that is, in some cases, the only reason they even exist, is a testament to the true ingenuity of Louisiana corruption.

That firm has numerous attorneys all over the state. These outside attorneys dig up possible areas of damage and turn to Carmouche for percentage. The problem is that in most all cases the damage occurred many years ago. The La office of Conservation regulations that were being followed at the time are now getting Oil Companies sued. How in the hell they allow legacy lawsuits for $100,000,000.00 for 10 acres of farmland that is worth $ 40,000.00 is insane. If current Oil Company causes damage we have insurance to cover it. We do not have insurance for shite that happened in 20-40 years ago by one of prior companies.

What six parishes?
There are a few particular fields I am thinking of which are notorious for massive operator turnover, to the point where the state said “frick it, treat certifications on those wells as eternally good” even if the operator on file has been out of business since the 70s.

JBE needs to remind the lawyers that it’s time for them to be less worried about their rights and think about the greater good.

Exactly UD, hence my tobacco reference. Tax the snot out of an industry, and when you are done, sue them.
