Yeah we all know it takes more than a jump shot to make the NBA. She’s not trying to be literal. It takes more than just studying hard to have great grades—you also must have a functioning brain and some people don’t.

At some point they have to make subjective decisions about how they want to round out the incoming class, so other factors come into play.

It's about maximizing what you can control.

It’s not - and that’s why NBA investment is in doing just that.
Recruitment in America has hit a ceiling. Too many young American kids want to get in the NBA. It’s actually an excellent comparison to college - there are only so many spots, and 1000x the applicants. The NBA investment is in international leagues - making the sport more popular so hopefully they can find more talent. I’ll bet recruiters walk around Eastern Europe and see 7ft dudes who have never touched a basketball. That doesn’t happen here. The NBA is investing in those communities to bring them basketball so they ultimately get the best talent.

I can’t even begin to explain how this makes no sense. NBA scouts are going international because there are too many Americans who play basketball to choose from?
