The US needs to sever relationships with any country that supports authoritarian globalism. We should be making countries that support our ideals stronger, not propping up countries selling out their native citizens to foreigners.

Didn’t mean to come off as dismissive. Just saying the issues you already raised were substantial on their own.
Are they deserving of a scorched earth strategy? Maybe not, but what people are seeing in a LOT of Trump’s policies is a hell of a lot of pent up frustration from years of getting the fuzzy end of the lollipop and held up for scorn, despite being the major force for keeping the world safe (when we’re not the ones making it less safe).
Speaking for myself, there is an element of Jessup’s speech that’s relevant. I’m sick and tired of us being the whipping boy for the world’s ills and being punished for being the most innovative, entrepreneurial, and productive country on earth. Get your own shite together or get out of our way.
All this compounded by smarmy, ignorant leftists that parrot this crap. I’m not full blown MAGA, but I do agree it’s past time we should feel any guilt for the prosperity here, and we should not be making it easier for low-output types to live off it, whether inside or outside the US.
Yes, income inequality is a thing, but someone else getting filthy rich is not an excuse for me to want to take it from them so I don’t have to work for mine. An oversimplification, admittedly, but not directionally wrong.
When you shite on people for year after year, don’t be surprised when they bite back.

What are the actual issues, other than the ones trump have manufactured for them?
Other replies here have addressed some of these, but my personal experience that rankles me is how hard it is to go there to do any kind of work.
I used to run a service division for a German manufacturer. High end compressors (~20 MW drivers) that you don’t let any random hammer mechanic work on.
Whenever we had a Canadian customer ask us to come onsite to work on a machine, my engineers and techs had to have all kinds of paperwork to demonstrate that they were only going to supervise others doing the hands on stuff, and they were there because the work was so technical and exact. Had to carry copies of purchase orders for the work and other silly documentation.
It’s bad bough to put up with crap like this when you go to a trade show and have to get a union guy to plug in a power strip. To deal with it for a whole damn country is just annoying as hell.
I understand the difference between tourist, business, and employment visas. This crap, though, is just being a bitch about something that most of the rest of the world understands is SOP. I could send them to almost any other country and not get this crap.

Hopefully our National parks service invades them and takes over things soon. Their military might hold off for three days with their black powder rifles and horse drawn cannons.
Then we can deport their illegals too!

Has he looked at how his country gets its energy resources to market?

They're about to find out what far leftism does to your economy especially when you believe you have more power than reality.

The lack of self-awareness is astounding.

It’s this acting like a bitch stuff that just gets me. I have no patience for drama queens in any context.
Precisely. In paying attention to their open disrespect for our country, I now can’t give two shites about the Canadians. I don’t want them snow birding in our country. They don’t like us. And they probably deep down, haven’t in years.
The only slack I can cut them is they have terminal stage TDS.

Also head of Bank of England. The guy knows international banking. Not that he can actually do much for Canada which is much too big for the population. To my limited knowledge the heavy Chinese investment and population are in BC.

I am hearing rumors of Canada joining the EU, but I am also hearing rumors of a CANZUK federation (Canada, UK, New Zealand, and Australia).

Let them ship their goods to China then.
Once that happens, Trump should permit and enlist privateers to steal it all.

Grok says:
Build more power plants south of the Canadian border, and that trade deficit goes away. That's an anthill that didn't need to be kicked over.
quote:
The U.S.-Canada trade balance reflects a complex economic relationship, with significant trade flows in goods and services. In 2024, the U.S. ran a goods trade deficit with Canada of $63.3 billion, down 1.4% from 2023, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. U.S. goods exports to Canada totaled $349.4 billion, while imports from Canada were $412.7 billion. However, when excluding energy exports (primarily oil and gas, which account for ~27% of Canada’s exports to the U.S.), the U.S. maintains a trade surplus of approximately $63 billion.

Doesn't like 80% of Canada live in a parallel below that of Seattle Washington? They should really tread lightly.
