Is that a thing?

I claim anyone who claims 2 + 2 = 4 is white supremacy is in fact themselves a white supremacist

The graph Theijsmeijer posted breaks racist math down into two categories, "Overt White Supremacy" which includes using the n-word while doing math. The second is "Covert White Supremacy" which includes "2+2=4," along with "Assuming math is neutral," "Standardized testing," and "Dismissing alternative algorithms."
in about 19 years of Math classes (K-12/ 2 degrees) I know I never have used the N word in math. Not sure what they are doing in Canada but in Alabama (Auburn U) we did not use it.

I'm sure she wouldn't be screaming about that if her paycheck was $1 because of the un-racist math.

Ancient Egyptian pyramids were built by racists?
Huh.
Huh.

Cool. Just add to the list of things that make a white supremacist. Maybe I’m dumb but their argument doesn’t make sense to me. Guess it’s my racism that won’t let me see it.

“Booker T, what’s 2+2?”
“2+2? Thomas Jefferson, sucka!”

no problem - cut her pay 80% and tell her it's in keeping with the policy to fight white supremacy

quote:Neither mathematics nor the scientific method is racist or subjective. Both are the basis of hypotheses. Accordingly their derived conclusions, even when conveniently popular, should alway be open to testing, retesting, and adjustment.
An equitable mathematics curriculum recognizes that mathematics can be subjective. Mathematics is often positioned as an objective and pure discipline. However, the content and the context in which it is taught, the mathematicians who are celebrated, and the importance that is placed upon mathematics by society are subjective. Mathematics has been used to normalize racism and marginalization of non-Eurocentric mathematical knowledges, and a decolonial, anti-racist approach to mathematics education makes visible its historical roots and social constructions. The Ontario Grade 9 mathematics curriculum emphasizes the need to recognize and challenge systems of power and privilege, both inside and outside the classroom, in order to eliminate systemic barriers and to serve students belonging to groups that have been historically disadvantaged and underserved in mathematics education.
Those who attempt to shut down questioning of hypotheses, like the author as well as his target, are the problem. That, rather than math itself, is the root of the issue.

Before this became reality I remember we would use the 2+2=4 is racist as a joke.
is it racist if the alleged intended party doesn't realize it/can't do the math?

All shite that white people had a hand in researching or discovering... doesn't exist due to racism.

Guessing she's not a big Orwell fan...

Holy shite. Math was discovered by humans, not created. We didn't "create" math any more than we "created" physics, we just learned how it works.
As an aside I did a search on this topic and came up with this: note that most of them are from Vandy so don't think this isn't here just because the idiot in the OP is from Canada. It's not really worth reading but I did find this bit funny:
quote:
…in order to perpetuate persistent narratives of criminality or general ineducability and, concomitantly, sustain the prestige of mathematical knowledge” (Gholson & Wilkes, 2017, p.41-42). One salient example is the consistent framing of Black girls as loud and expressive. Viewing Black females in this light obfuscates their learning potential and, subsequently, their learning opportunities(Fordham, 1993).
Yeah, I have no idea where that stereotype come from.
If the link works it's to a pdf of a "scholarly" paper on the topic.
