Well frick you, I lost power for over 48 hrs straight and then had to be put in the rolling blackouts once it was restored. Take your shite and go to Cali if you enjoy “minor inconveniences” that can be avoidable.

Honest answer - it’s a misplaced priorities thing. There’s no excuse for the major roads being impassable in Houston every time there’s a thunderstorm. 100-car pileup in Ft Worth? No one in gov has an iPhone with the little weather app button? Rolling blackouts in summer in Houston are becoming more and more common.

It’s on Abbott - and the legislature - for littering west Texas with windmills, idiotic rail lines that travel a few miles, and pet projects that ignore the basic service of making sure the light comes on when I flip the switch.

It’s like we pay less per KWh than states that seem to have electricity when it snows.

But some joe blow will always be there ready with criticism like "lines should've been buried". Or "trees should've been better maintained". And they won't be convinced otherwise that proper execution of those things and the like would have averted 90% of outages and the resulting losses associated therewith. There will never cease to be a lack of that criticism in any sort of storm because frankly in no way is it possible to actually avert damage from such destructive acts of nature. But of course that doesn't mean there weren't failures to better prepare in this, that and the other way. If power plants were knowingly underpowered and underprepared, then it been the same problem for both tropical and winter storms. That certainly doesn't excuse anything. I have a feeling this will be the storm that shows in detail who all was derelict and whether knowingly or not. Probably gonna be some metaphorical heads busted, and rightfully so.

But to my original point in the last post, there's really not much of a distinction to be made between hurricane outage and these outages, as both had negligence aspects, but also both will have their force majeure aspects as well. To maybe oversimplify it a little, extreme cold with no power sticks out in the minds of people moreso than extreme hot with no power...sorta boils down to temperature inflaming things acutely.
