I found newly discovered carbon sequestration units that can be profitable.

I’m pretty sure they capture the carbon emissions from refineries and plants and then pipeline them to a carb cap site where they are injected into a depleted reservoir, or in some cases they are used by oil companies like denbury (recently acquired by xom, who’s going heavy on carb cap) to inject into energy depleted oil formatijon to repressure the reservoir and recover more oil.

Wouldn't building a golf course qualify?

how exactly does this generate money
Only through government subsidies of the capturing industry. The captured CO2 is fairly worthless and isn't being stored to be sold for a small profit later by some company who would then make products with it to fill a demand in the economy.

Capture carbon in trees
Cut down tress for lumber
Rivne repeat

Government regs forcing companies to do it and government money subsidizing this stuff.
If government got out of it completely it dies almost immediately.

If I understand correctly, these plants yank carbon dioxide from the atmospere, it is collected amd sent underground.
Jesus Christ man. Let it go. No you don’t understand correctly. lol

It doesn't make any money without the subsidies. I've got another good one for you. Those huge compressors are 3-4 years out even if you issued a PO today. It's a scam.
Really? What kind of huge compressors? You sound like you’re in the know. I am too. Explain.

It's a money hole, it will cost billions to maintain these through brother-in-law contracts.
But it does give politicians another way to make money under the table and funnel money to friends and family.

I’m still waiting for an answer to this question…
So apparently we are going to trap all of the earths heat in by its core, thus cooling the outer crust and causing a global Ice Age?

Why build them here? The carbon is coming from China.
Why doesn't the UN punish China for their carbon emissions.

I think the subsidy is $85 a ton. If compression is less than 85 a ton, then you profit. For what purpose are we pumping CO2 into the ground, not sure.
To carbonate the drinking water, of course.

20,000 seems like a doable number worldwide. We probably have more refineries than that.
There’s about 115 in the US and 675 worldwide.

Well just call Kobelco, Andritz, Mitsubishi, or any of the other big players in the industry. The demand and continued global post-COVID manufacturing clusterfrick are real.
I guess if doing FEL studies for this dubious technology makes me "in the know" so be it.
Care to offer any evidence to refute these claims or just attack the source?
You fricking Explain...

There are between 550 and 825 refineries world wide.

And oil refineries actually make money.

You do not understand it. There is carbon capture and carbon sequestration. Carbon capture includes direct carbon capture, which is yanking it from the atmosphere. That is radically expensive and not anywhere close to economically practicable yet.
Most carbon capture involves grabbing it in concentrated streams such as waste from ammonia production.
Carbon sequestration is storing it underground.
Your question about it making money is irrelevant. How much money did catalytic converters make? None. But they sure cleaned up the air in big cities like LA.

How do you capture it? I know there's a huge project on Lake Maurepas but seriously it seems like a huge waste of money.

Biden giving $1.2B to plant a couple of trees? Why did we give him so much discretionary money?

quote:Anesthesia machines used to capture (scrub) CO2 in closed circuit by running the exhaled gases through what I believe were charcoal pellets. Kind of had to use close circuits or you would expose everyone in the room with anesthetic gases. Probably still uses something but haven't been around it in years.
