Have another upvote sir. I have some rent houses and yes it pisses me off when someone living in a section 8 (none of my properties are S8) or a housing project can vote on me paying more money.

Question, when they pass a property tax and your taxes go up, are you able to pass along the increase to your renters?

I hate property taxes so damn much. You will never own property here, it’s all just rent. You own nothing.

It's the worst form of taxation imo.

Property taxes were implemented for paying for items such as police, fire, and infrastructure. Over the years it has been perverted.

All it really means is that you never own your own home.

Yep. Property taxes are legitimately the most communistic/anti-American thing to exist - yet many people just accept them

The reality is we are renting our lands and home from the government

Once it can be taxed by the government it is owned by the government

Property taxes are the one thing I believe people who rent should not be able to vote on. People shouldn't be able to vote to increase taxes on things that won't affect them.

This is really embarrassing.

1) Rent most certainly would go up when property taxes go up.

2) Businesses pay property taxes both on equipment and real property. When taxes go up... they most certainly factor that in to their overhead, which means prices have to go up, and I'm pretty sure renters shop there.

Are you this unaware of our government system, or are you just a til foil hat wearing weirdo?

1) No "property tax" can be implemented by executive order.

2) Louisiana doesn't have any statewide property taxes.

I mean, I'm mad JBE won as well... but come on.

I thought property taxes were only local taxes such as parish wide or city. How would the governor or state have power over these?

If you think rent won’t go higher when property tax is increased, you’re mistaken.

If you think most renters actually consider that, you're mistaken.

Renters pay property tax built into their rent amount. Unless you think someone who owns rental property is so stupid as to not include their expenses when setting the rent amounts

Does their property get seized if they don't pay it?

No.

The property owner is the only one with skin in the game. Therefore, he's the only one that should vote.
