Can anything be gleaned about midterms from content on this board?

This is a fairly active board. But I understand it's also a bit of an echo chamber with little to no real debate happening where folks are NOT open to persuasion or seeing issues differently from their entrenched perspective.

BUT one thing I have noticed is the the Up votes/Down votes on Anti/Pro Trump/MAGA content has changed wildly. Especially after the war with Iran.

I see wayyyyy more upvotes on Anti Trump posts than I ever saw before and I wonder if this is an indicator that Republicans will get wiped out in the midterms?

So you’re basing midterms on upvotes/downvotes, specifically downvotes showing that republicans will lose elections around the country based upon a LSU message board? What a model!

The short answer is no.

That would be wishful thinking.

Congressional elections are local elections and do not cleanly follow national trends. The trend for or against a candidate has to be a local trend. It is very difficult to remove incumbent congresspeople because local people are already used to voting for them.

Also, the republicans have spent several years redrawing maps to consolidate voting power and splitting areas where republicans are less popular to dilute opposition voting power. Changing the maps will have an impact.

Anyone who expects a democratic landslide this year or in the next cycle is engaging in magical thinking.

Here is a thought. If you can wait a few weeks, the results will be in.

This board has a better track record for predicting things than any other place I’ve seen, honestly. We knew that Trump was gonna win this election big last time, just like we know that the GOP is gonna win this election in the midterms

Wiped out? No.

But they will most likely lose the House and it is more likely than not they lose the Senate (though I still have my doubts about that one).

Either way it will be relatively close in both chambers. Expect gridlock and a lot of investigations.

No. This board largely subscribes to the lie that elections are real so pretty much everyone is not getting it

The overwhelming majority of posters on this board live in states where the results of the midterms are not even remotely in dispute or doubt. Literally the only race with any intrigue where a decent number of posters live is the Texas Senate race between Talerico and Paxton, which I believe Paxton will win by at least 3 points.

Trump has his lowest approval rating ever and people are fed up with his lies and nonsense.

Were those maps previously jerrymandered to benefit democrats?

Don't read too much into anything on this board. As you correctly surmised , it's something of an echo chamber. But in terms of the election. The whole focus is on the Senate with too much attention focusing on Texas and little focus on other races that makes whatever happens in Texas irrelevant.

North Carolina is just as important and it looks like Cooper is going to wipe out the Republican

ME , Iowa, Alaska, Ohio and Kansas don't look good right now either despite what many on the board think. There's not some sort of invisible empire staying quiet right now. Most of the Democrats will win by 1.5 -2% spread. In Texas I would be surprised if Paxton loses but he keeps trying real hard to do so. In Michigan, I'm at a loss at how Al Sayed is running ahead, but he's also a relentless campaigner and that counts for something. It may come down to who wants it more.

But Kansas is the race to look at. Marshall started out comfortably but has been degrading weekly / daily. He's not terribly liked as a person and he's something of an absentee candidate.....he actually lives in FL most of the time and the Democrats are hammering that along wit the fact that he was very very lax in paying his campaign staff from 2020.

Anti Trump posts

I think this is a bit of a misnomer which helps maintain the echo chamber.

Disagreeing with something Trump has done or the way he has handled something is not necessarily "anti-Trump" (as that denotes being against anything/everything he does).

For instance, I agree that he needed to go after Iran (should have been done long before he got into office), but I disagree with the way it's been handled (initial strong assault, then backing off to negotiate). The culture in charge there does not respect backing off, they see it as the weakness of retreat (or, at the least, an opportunity to try to gain at least some rhetorical wins).

At the very least, Trump's message should be along the lines of "this is going to be a tough fight economically, it's going to require some sacrifices at the pump and checkout aisle, but those sacrifices are nothing compared to the lives which have been sacrificed by previous administrations either doing nothing or trying to bribe them into not killing others."

Saying all of this, it doesn't change my mind on voting for Trump. "Support" doesn't mean "always agree".
