Can anyone explain how open borders and a welfare state can coexist?

Let's just say I was inclined to side with this point of view.
Walk me through the mechanics of it.

Obviously they cannot.
If the open borders wanted much laxer border control, they would have to give up social programs and welfare state.
But they don't want that. They want both. They want bigger and bigger government and more people dependent on it.
Obviously, they don't care about economic reality because they have no concept of it.

It's not supposed to work. The goal is to crash the system, creating a vacuum where an authoritarian communist regime can gain control.

I heard a decent argument on a podcast from a professor who was for open borders, but explained it would only be possible without the welfare system.
There's no way the welfare system is being revoked anytime soon, so it's necessary to have border restrictions.
I like people with sense, as oppose to the people who simply scream "I want it this way!! I want it now!!!", which unfortunately seems to be most on the left.

It works the same way single payer healthcare and $15 an hour minimum wage works . It cost the working class a lot more in taxes and they eventually become dependent on the government and then the government will have control of everyone .

it can, but only for a very short period.

Greedy trillionaires and corporations refuse to share the wealth.
Or, something like that.

The Cloward–Piven strategy is a political strategy outlined in 1966 by American sociologists and political activists Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven that called for overloading the U.S. public welfare system in order to precipitate a crisis that would lead to a replacement of the welfare system with a national system of "a guaranteed annual income and thus an end to poverty".
It can't, but this is the ultimate goal, after confiscating all personal retirement accounts and savings. Of course run by the thrifty, business savy, democrat party.

It's all about the virtue signaling in the here and now. It's much easier to prance around pretending like you are a great humanitarian, philanthropist human being and ignoring the difficult reality that we don't live in la-la land where whatever feels good inside will simply work itself out without any negative repercussions. These people have no foresight and only live in the here and now of what makes them feel good inside about themselves. Basically it's a child's mentality in full grown adults except this has the potential to ruin a stable civilization to the point beyond repair.

And the people hurt are the poorest and most vulnerable.
Here's a hint, libs: A bunch of poor brown people coming in to the US doesn't hurt me directly.
