They’ll consider taxing daily steps next. And maybe calculate breaths per minute and they can figure a way to tax the air they breathe.

Those idiot bastards keep on and there will be no gas nor mileage to tax.

Have you heard about the 15 minute cities?

That’s exactly what the globalist totalitarians want.

It’s a feature not a bug.

It should only apply to EVs and it shouldn't be anywhere near that high.

It would probably make sense for EV owners to just be charged a one time annual fee that is about equivalent to the excise taxes that they would have otherwise incurred using a fuel efficient sedan.

Taxing by actual mileage is an invasion of privacy. I would not be shocked at all to learn that this push comes from car insurance lobbyists to track actual miles driven to hike rates since they sort of go on the honor system as it stands.

Community Note:

This is a study to replace gas tax with miles-driven tax.

This is not a study...

It has already been passed by the lower chamber (assembly).

When CA goes retard, they don't half step.

I clicked on the X post you provided in your OP just knowing it was a BabylonBee source thinking not even Californian politicians could be that stupid.

As if the productive people of CA needed another reason to move to a sane state.

It is still being studied as a pilot program.

Some people have already been volunteering to pay it. When they report their mileage, they get a tax credit for the gas tax that they pay at the pump.

The legislation in the OP only extends the deadline for the report on the pilot program from January 2027 to 2035.

Yes, it is.

“ The research would have to be finished and presented by Jan. 1, 2027, so they can move forward enacting the milage tax.”

The article from yesterday that says so

Taxman
Release date: 05 August 1966

Let me tell you how it will be,
There's one for you, nineteen for me,
Cause I'm the Taxman,
Yeah, I'm the Taxman.
Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don't take it all,

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat,
If you get too cold, I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.
Taxman.

Don't ask me what I want it for
If you don't want to pay some more

Now my advice for those who die,
Declare the pennies on your eyes,

And you're working for no-one but me,
Taxman.
