NC subsidized American workers for agricultural field jobs and even gave them preferential treatment. Less than 7 people lasted a year

North Carolina needed 6,500 farm workers. Only 7 Americans stuck it out.

When native unemployed people are referred to NCGA, they're almost without exception hired; between 1998 and 2011, 97 percent of referred applicants were hired. But they don't tend to last. In 2011, 245 people were hired out of 268 referred, but only 163 (66.5 percent) of the hired applicants actually showed up to the first day of work. Worse, only seven lasted to the end of the growing season:

Americans don't need them to live, because Uncle Sugar is there with EBT, SNAP and Section 8.

That's not a good position to have.

Avocados are a superfood.

They contain almost all the vitamins you need for the week, contain the healthy fat you need, they stabilize your blood sugar levels so you don't get weak during the day, improve your eyesight, help with weight loss, great for sex and fertililty as they boost testosterone and keep blood flowing to all the important parts...

Oh and researches think Avocados protect unborn babies and help fight cancer.

The market isn't set by those who aren't legally allowed to be in the workforce.

So he based his entire business on illegal labor?

This avocado farmer isn't the only business that depends on cheap illegal labor. Most residential construct sites, roofing companies, drywall installers, many road construction job sites, lawn care, etc. have crushed American workers and wages by hiring illegal aliens.

Listen here. Pickin them thar crops is for the slave labor. Without slave labor, those poor crops just won't get picked.

I don't expect y'all cityfolk to understand. Don't take away our slaves.

CA shouldn't have those crops anyway. It's a naturally arid area. Maybe if Mexico, having more suitable conditions than CA, was growing those crops, we wouldn't have this issue.

Wrong.

He can't pick his crop at the price he wants to pay to pick it.

I'd suggest he change to a crop that can harvested by machines.

Laying on your arse at home playing ps4 and collecting 300 a week, or picking avocados in the hot sun for 500 per week?

Welfare Still wins.

The irony in all of this is they'd make more money and have better working conditions as legal citizens, but stay illegal because theyd net less pay due to libs and their giraffe arse high taxes.

Great argument for cutting welfare. Kudos.

Exactly. Picking crops, like any other highly labor intensive work should come with a decent wage. Americans would pick avocados and other fruits and vegetables for $20 an hour. And then we wouldn't have to subsidize their food stamps, health care, utilities assistance, section 8 housing and welfare.

Trust me when I say that 20 cent tomato costs you a lot more than 20 cents.
Someone has a ... limited ... understanding of economics.

If the welfare state were not subsidizing people to do nothing, Americans WOULD be picking those crops ... at a market price WELL below $20.

You cannot warp the labor market and then complain when employers seek workers elsewhere at the true equilibrium price.

I dunno, he could always pay a decent wage to get Americans to show up.

Considering it costs $2-$5 to add guac to any dish in America you would think that the avocado farmers were paying people with doctorates to pick them.
