Also, if this dude was less low T whiny bitch and more high T entrepreneur, he would call his farm organic and post it on WWOOF.

There is a line of hippie chicks a mile long waiting to work on WWOOF farms.

LINK

And they work for free!

Drove past a field yesterday full of Hispanics chopping cotton. Hispanics are just the new form of slave labor.

The market isn't set by those who aren't legally allowed to be in the workforce.
I'd say agriculture and any business dependent on short term labor during busy seasons (mainly warehousing and lawn maintenance / snow removal) definitely has a set market based on the workforce of legal / illegal immigrants.

I've seen it first hand in the warehousing side of it - Americans simply don't want to pick/pack/put-away/cycle count. Temp agencies keep businesses with busy seasons alive to survive year in and year out - I've had to hire hundreds over the years. I can't hire them permanently though...no chance their SSN would pass. Most of the time it's not even their real name. And more importantly - they'd turn it down and go to the next job opening.

Glad I got out of that, too stressful

ACLU determined it was inhumane to make prisoners work and they found some liberal judge to agree with them.

That's an opinion based on a probable fact.

Cry me a rio grande. Start a viable business that doesn’t depend on slave wages to survive.

This. frick those guys. We pay better than average across the board at all positions. Even our summer help, highschool kids filing and shite, make $11/hr. We pay one hundred percent of our employees health insurance and provide retirement and profit sharing plans. Not to mention that we don't charge them or their families for healthcare we provide. But since I'm republican and support Trump and am anti illegal immigration...I'm the a-hole.

That's what pisses me off. Around here it's oil producers using illegals. Pay cash, no benefits, put them up I shitty little houses for "free", used cars that they then get them to fix up, just like the houses for the right to use them or live there and act like they're all generous and shite. No insurance, and we they get fricked up and injured, NO COMP. To the ER and on the taxpayers dime. And these are guys worth tens to hundreds of millions$. And then to hear how good they are to their workers and all they provide?!!!!!

Sometimes I wish I had the audacity and lack of morals and ethics to be so generous. Money is waaaaay easier to make if you lack those traits. Rant over....for now.

Wait? You guys won't pick crops unless it's for more than the market dictates the skill is worth? You sound like McDonalds workers.

Actually it was the farmer who didnt want to pay the necessary wage.

If a contractor uses an illegal to lay ceramic tile and pays him in cash $8 an hour, but then the illegal gets deported and the contractor cannot find another illegal to do the work that has to be done, what will the contractor do? He will find someone else to do the work and pay what he has to to get the job completed. If the contractor didnt allow money in the job bid to account for this type of situation it comes out of his pocket.

Very similar to the same contractor who bids on a contract and quotes $25 a sheet for plywood, but then a hurricane hits and plywood prices increase to $32 a sheet. What do you think will happen?

The market will dictate what wages are to be.

I dunno, he could always pay a decent wage to get Americans to show up.

If his portrayal is accurate you are hired on at min wage and quickly escalate FAR beyond that. Who knows the truth of his statement but if his 200-300 a day for a reliable worker and the best are 400 a day we are talking 2x, 3x and 4x minimum wage there based on a 10 hour day.

The answer might be that we as a country aren’t willing to pay what it costs to buy avacado.... unfortunately our system is so all over the place with farm subsidies and policies that it’s hard for joe citizen to gauge what true cost and willing spend would be for our food supply.
